Chapter 21 - No reward!

After Sam and Chronos came back the room was filled with uncomfortable silence. Cain who wanted to know what happened but decided to keep his mouth shut.

"Even though we were unable to reach an understanding I would be grateful if you can accept this pendant" saying this he extended a pendant towards Sam.

Picking the pendant and bringing close for a good look it was unlike any pendant Sam had seen. Oval in shape shining black, like the material itself was black but shiny and hard, gold engravings which again Sam couldn't understood. But the striking part of the pendant was a symbol in the middle, a spiral which looked a lot like a snake. Still he accepted the gift and put it in his breast pocket.

"You can go back through the door you came in and it will bring you to the floor master's nest. Then again, Take Care", with this Chronos escorted them out of the hut. Again the angel sculptures cried tears of blood and with a loud scream the door opened leading them to the floor master's nest.

It was a tough ride for both and Sam wanted to just leave everything and jump in the bed. But first comes the hard earned prize, the S-class treasure. Looking around. Looking around again and again. Nothing, there was nothing left. Everything was already swept cleaned by the adventurers that came after Sam and Cain had entered the gate. Turns out a day they spent in lower heaven was equivalent to two weeks here and in the meantime they were absent other adventurers stumble upon the treasures and the unique monster. "My treasure, my S-class treasure, sob sob T_T", Sam went into despair.

Cain finally asked what happened when Sam disappeared with Chronos. "Nothing, we were just discussing our hobbies and other things". "You are not hiding something from me?" Cain had a stern face when asking this question. "Nothing, not a thing at all. You have nothing to worry about, Master ", dismissing Cain's doubts Sam started moving towards the exit stairs. Cain couldn't help but worry more.

Since other adventurers have claimed the prize and with core of the unique monster also gone, there was nothing left to claim that they completed the task. With heavy shoulders they came back to the inn and rested for a day.

[Wake up lad, this is no time to sleep]

Rubbing his eyes slowly Sam got up and looked around but saw no one. Thinking he was dreaming he went back to sleep again.

[Oi! Have you forgotten about me HAAAH]

Sam jumped from his bed because of the loud sound in his head and started cursing. "What are you doing you idiot" asked Sam in a loud voice. Cain who was sleeping in the same room also woke up from the commotion and equipped his sword thinking enemy attacked.

Seeing Sam cursing Cain thought an assassin has come or some thief and searched the room but found no one. Sam also came to his senses and covered his mouth with his hand. "Are you alright Sam?", asked Cain.

"Yes master, it was just a very bad dream. I am sorry to disturb your sleep" apologizing he went to sleep again. Closing his eyes he asked Sei where he was all this time.

[All I remember was that you touched the gate and a bright light surrounded us. After that everything is black, like I was awake but sleep at the same time]. Hearing this all the questions Sam had about Sei and the history he asked.

[I remember about the great war. It was a fierce war in which humans, elves, dwarves, demons all fought against their common enemy, Demigods. The war went for almost a decade but in the end demigods were victorious and the continent split into several territories and species scattered around those territories on the condition that they will not do this again and comply with demigods]

'So, even though kingdoms exist they are originally ruled by demigods in the shadow?'

[I am unaware of current history, but it is true. For their compliance kingdoms are given power and protection by that area's demigods]

'It is all so complicated, the more you know'. Sam had no intention of meddling in demigods business. The only thing Sam was concerned about was Sei's identity.

'One last thing, tell me honestly who you are'.
