Hades opened his mouth and closed them momentarily. His eyes glazed with such ferocious anger I could feel it emanating from his skin.
"You dare question me? A god?!"
I bite my bottom lip, trying to keep my tongue from speaking words that would cause me trouble. "I meant no disrespect with my questions. I am allowed to ask questions? All you had to do was answer it."
"I could say the same to you." He hissed, his low voice laced with anger coursing through his body, "All you had to do was answer it and not talk back."
I clenched my fist in anger, infuriated by his words. Clenching my fist, I responded, "I wear them so I don't kill everything I touch. There, now you answer my question, why do I have to stay with you?"
Hades seemed taken aback, but he tried not to let me catch it but I caught it alright. He obviously knew why I was wearing them, he just wanted an answer out of me and to make a mockery of my words.
"I didn't expect her to be this childish. I expected her to be submissive. If she wasn't a threat to mankind and the gods, I would have sent her to the dark place for her disobedience."
I had thought he was talking to me but when I didn't see him move his jaw I stopped walking. I was mad, upset and at the same time hurt. I didn't understand why it did, but it hurt me. Hearing him converse with someone else about me in that manner hurt me. I waited for his response on the question I had asked him. When he didn't answer right away, I figured he was too angry and displeased to answer me. But it wasn't my fault he was the one being so difficult. I would have tried to be nice even if being nice wasn't my forte, but the god was making it very difficult for me to do so.
"You are causing an imbalance on earth, that is attracting… particular types of beings. We call them underworlders. Those that have been cast out from my abode."
"Those? Or you meant Lucifer."
He suddenly halts and turned to me. I swear to have seen his eyes flashed red in anger.
"You've met him?"
"Not particularly. He's a myth just like you are… Well till I saw you. There's a mythology written about you all-" I pause when realization hits me "Does this mean he is real? Heaven, fallen angels? All that is real?"
Hades just studied my facial expression once more before turning and giving me his back, as he continued his walk once more.
"There is Lucifer, along with other rebels. I can't disclose their information to you as you are a child and you might not be able to handle them."
"I am 22" I snorted
"And my years can not be measured with that of humans." Came his abrupt response.
"So that makes you… Kind of ancient?" My curious mind made my tongue blurt out the words.
I could feel his face build up in a smirk from where I was standing. I wasn't sure if he was impressed by how fast I could comprehend things, or if he has finally thought of a way to get rid of me.
"It fits the description." Hades cleared his throat as he continued, walking past every room we passed. He suddenly yanks my elbow to push me past a set of stairs. Well that was what I thought he'd do, but instead he simply held my elbows and lifted me without any strain, like I was an apple or some kind of simple fruit. He dropped me after he was sure there were no more stairs to cross.
"They called a meeting. If you have gotten to us, then there must be someone, or more people, coinciding with the humans to use you to get rid of the gods, for good."
He continues "I offered to kill you, but apparently, even the God of death can't kill you."
"Wait. You offered to kill me?" I questioned, my voice raising a few octaves, as we walked further through and into more hallways.
"I suggested, everyone did. Mine just turned out to be worse. The rest of my family kicked against the idea. Especially Zeus, and they all went about insisting till I couldn't say no to them. Since I sort of played a part in what's happening to you."
"Wait, what does that mean? I need answers as to why this is happening…" I stretched out my hands. "That's why I came here."
"I am no history professor. I won't go into those gritty details." He spoke so nonchalantly, it provoked me.
I huffed, hugging myself with my hands to keep me from smacking him on the head. He was making me so livid I wanted to hurt him even though I knew I couldn't, even if it was a little so he would see how much anger he makes me feel.
"You sort of caused this-" I started, but he cut me short mid sentence, as soon as the words came out of my mouth.
"Those were not my words." He spoke in defense.
And I continued "-and then, you refused to tell me how and why…"
Hades suddenly turned and in a swift manner, he gripped my arms that were still folded and sort of hanged me on the walls.
"All you need to know is you are a part of me, and that makes you mine. All mine!" He growled with gritted teeth at me.
I pause my lips trying not to smile and make him look stupid. Noticing my antics, he suddenly dropped me down. It was now I realized we have come to stand in front of a grand obsidian raven door.
Hades sighed, at this point it was quite clear he was tired and could not put up with me anymore. He ran his fingers through his silky black hair and said "You are staying with me because as the god of the underworld, I'm the only lucky one that won't die by your touch." The sarcasm that laced his words were pronounced.
My eyes lit up with excitement, and the first thought that came to mind was that, I could touch his hair if I wanted to. For sure he wouldn't tell me… But the chances of me getting away with it was slim and was worth trying. I smirked evilly as I schemed a way to go about doing so.
Operation 1 - Touch Hades' hair.
