Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 28

/ Same Day - The Quileute Tribe Pov /

After the meeting with the Cullens, the tribe remained at the campfire, further discussing the recent warning from The Cullens.

"So, should we trust them?" Jacob said while looking around at his family members, who had a look of uncertainty.

"I think we should. The Cullens haven't broken the pact they made with our ancestors. Besides, we've got nothing to lose if we trust them," Billy voiced his opinion.

Some of the older members nodded in agreement, while the younger ones had a look of uncertainty on their faces.

"How about you, Sam?" Billy asked.

Sam, who was staring at the fire in front of him, didn't say anything until Billy called him out again.

"Sam?"

"I... I think we can trust them," Sam said, still staring at the fire. His pack, who could feel their alpha's emotions, asked what was bothering him.

"Nothing, I was just thinking about something," Sam answered.

One of his pack members, named Jared, asked again, "You can't lie to us, Sam. Just tell us."

Sam looked around him and sighed, "Their newest member, Mikael wasn't it?"

His family nodded at his question, then he continued, "Ever since I saw him at the border that time, I always had this feeling that he's the most dangerous person in the world."

"And I think my instincts were correct. After our meeting with him earlier, I've confirmed that he is indeed the most dangerous and powerful person I've ever met in my life."

"I can't simply put it into words; I just know that if I ever mess with him, I'm dead." The tribe, hearing his explanation, grew concerned and furrowed their brows.

"Don't worry, as long as we don't get on his bad side, we'll be fine. Anyway, does anybody know him or have seen him before?" Billy said, hoping to calm the situation with his family.

"I think I saw him briefly with one of the Cullens at that time when I visited Bella at her school's prom," Jacob answered.

"Did anybody else see him?" Billy asked again, but the family shook their heads.

At the end of their night, the tribe reached an agreement that they would trust the Cullens. But before they left, Billy said, "All right everyone, let's end it here and Sam, always be on guard."

Sam and his pack nodded, and they ran off into the woods. The tribe slowly dispersed one after another until Jacob and Billy were the last ones remaining at the campfire.

"What's wrong, Jacob? Is something bothering you?" Billy asked, patting his back.

Jacob, who was throwing tree branches into the fire, said, "I'm worried about Bella. What if something has happened to her?"

Billy could only sigh and say, "She'll be fine, Jacob. Come on, help me get inside. It's getting cold out here."

Jacob stood up and took Billy inside the house, his mind still preoccupied with Bella's well-being.

/ Unkown Location - Third Pov/

A group of people can be seen sitting at the round table, with the blond man sitting on the grandest chair among them.

"So, we've found the child," the blond man said with an amused tone.

"Indeed, my lord, but we have a slight problem," said an old man with a youthful face, dressed in butler attire.

"Oh?"

"We found him with the Cullens. It seems that our target has become one of them," the butler answered.

"Interesting," the blond man said, smiling as he placed his hand on his chin.

There was a moment of silence until one of them said, "Sir, if I may, I'll lead The Blades and take care of them right now."

"Seems like muscles and rocks have gotten into your heads lately, Sir Eighth." said a gothic man with dark hair, in a mocking tone.

"Seems like I have to beat your ass to keep your mouth shut!" said the buffed, long blond-haired man wearing a suit, in an angry tone.

"Watch your tongue, please, dear sirs. The Lord has something to say," said the butler again calmly.

"You have something to say, Seventh?" said The Lord while staring at the gothic man.

The gothic man nodded and said, "Yes, my lord, in my opinion, we can't have a direct confrontation with the Cullens because of their territory. It isn't just the Cullens who live in Forks, but there are also the shape shifters. We can't simply ignore them since they'll pick up our scent as we're strangers to the territory."

"Indeed, continue."

"So, I propose we send The Daggers, as their leader has the ability to erase any scent from anything. This way, they'll have the advantage, as the shifters won't be able to pick up their scent, and when they enter the territory, allowing them to get the job done quickly," said the gothic man.

"Not a bad plan, but not smart enough," this time a blonde woman with a white dress said, with a slight smile.

"Oh? Do you have a better plan, Lady Fifth?" said the Gothic man with a slight snort.

"Of course, our intelligence, The Eyes, has gathered some quite useful information about the Cullens and the shifters that reside in Forks," the lady answered, while a screen projected onto the wall behind her.

"Pardon me, my lord," said the woman to the lord, while bowing her head slightly. She then got up from her seat and went near the projected screen.

The Lord nodded slightly, and so did the woman. She then proceeded with her explanation of the plan.

"Alistair, a good friend of Carlisle, a nomad, has recently become one of us. He first met Carlisle Cullen in the 17th century, Alistair's ability falls into the tracking category; he feels an elusive pull towards his target. However, his power is less efficient as it takes time for him to determine his target's location and he may never be able to catch up if the target is on the move. The one difference his power has from other more profound trackers is his ability to track inanimate objects."

"A useless ability, I must say. We have people who are better than him," said a dark-haired and short-bearded man wearing white clothes in his rich French accent.

"Indeed, Sir Fourth, his ability is rather lacking in comparison to that of our members at The Eyes. However, we're not going to utilize his ability. Instead, we're going to send him as a distraction."
