Bei Sangyun was relieved that Fei Chuan brought up this topic first. Unconsciously, she relaxed her clenched fists. At least this was something they could discuss without awkwardness.
"I'm glad too that I was with you when it happened. Does this sort of thing happen to you often?"
"Yes. That was actually the fifth time." Fei Chuan twirled the wine glass in his hand, his somber reflection shimmering in the crimson liquid.
"And I've been lucky so far—my friend has always been there to help me before others could intervene. But this last time… he was surrounded by guests and couldn't make it in time. I thought they might succeed." His voice wavered slightly. "That's why I'm truly grateful to you."
Bei Sangyun's heart clenched painfully.
