Chapter 40 - Fight till the end

Kylan Pov

It's been over twenty minutes since I left Myst on her own. We've all been putting in our best, regardless of the fact that Mystic has left.

Draining the soldiers of their courage to fight. The attacks of the demons have been relentless, and both I and Myst have been doing our best to hold off against the demons.

Till she returns.

We've all been fighting for two days straight without rest. Everyone has been drained of their spiritual energy, and fighting further could lead to death.

I dodge narrowly, as a demon's clawed hands aim for my head. Turning with my sword, I drive it straight into its heart with gritted teeth.

Myst, though I was low in energy myself, I needed to be sure she was okay. She had to be okay.

I watch the demon's corpse drop dead to the floor with cold eyes, before turning and aiming for the other side of the battle field.

Relief floods my veins as I sight her, she was covered in blood all over. She was staggering as well.

But the blood on her body were not hers, but of the demons she had slaughtered so far. With a hitched breath, I make my way to her.

"Myst" I call out to her, but before I could reach her; a demon appeared and attacked her from behind.

Her attention was on me so she didn't have enough time to defend herself.

"Damn it." I say through gritted teeth, ignoring the weakness of my limbs as I begin to run to her. She was already weak and couldn't fight them off herself. To make things worse, the wounds she had received was deep enough...

To put her at the brick of death.

With anger coursing through my veins, I make a leap for the demon. Before I can reach it, a strong force appears in front of me. Deflecting my strike easily, causing me to bounce off with a strong impact against the ground.

My visions becomes blurry as I hear a mocking laughter from above. My sword was currently laying at a distance, out of my reach.

Plus the haziness in my eyes and the weakness of my body, would make it difficult to reach it before I was struck down.

"How does it feel to loose?" A dangerously familiar voice asked.

My blood runs cold as I realize who it is, as I watched him make his way towards Myst. Dark negative energy seeping off him.

I was too stunned to speak, paralysed by fear of what he would do to her.

I watch helplessly as she staggered to her feet, barely conscious.

"Where is your sister? Did she abandonyou all again?" He asked slyly, I watched her expressionless face for a moment.

Her next words taking me by surprise.

"Why do you are? Bring it on, Trigon. I ain't going down without a fight." And then she smirked, "I plan to fight till the end before you can win."

Her words cause the grin on Trigon's face to vanish. His grip on his trident tightens.

Then he turns away and begins to admire his trident like it was the most interesting thing.

"Oh well," he began, lifting his eyes to sweep over me, then to meet with Myst's. "I planned on letting you watch me while I finish your sister. Though it will be fun to see her reaction when she sees your; corpse." He said slowly, emphasising on the last word.

I flinched, "do your worst." I heard Myst say to him. With her head held up high.

What was she...

"If you say so," Trigon said, before sweeping his trident at her in a powerful blow.

"Myst!" I yell, using all the energy left in me to channel some wind towards her. At least to save her, but I was too weak. And it was too late..

Myst's Pov

Even though I had openly challenged Trigon. I knew I had little time left, but deep down I still hoped that I could make a difference. Even if it was just a little.

'All I hope, is that you are able to forgive me, Kylan.'

I close my eyes, embracing myself for the pain which would surely claim my life. Doing my best to ignore Kylan's painful cries behind me.

But it never comes.

There's a wave of silence. Suddenly I can feel the dead around me. Those who had willingly sacrificed themselves for the kingdom. But what struck me, was the tense silence.

It was so thick, it could drown one's sense of thought in it.

I don't dare open my eyes, as I remain awaiting my fate.

There is a sound of a strong force colliding with another equally strong. I don't dare open my eyes at this, but the voice that breaks the silence...

Manages to force my eyes back open.

"How dare you try to harm my sister!!" A grave angry voice yells.

My eyes widen in shock. How did she get here?

"Mystic.." Kylan says in relief.

However, I'm too dumb struck to say a word.
