"Then tonight we party," Lilian said as she drove the car. "We are going to be celebrating your birthday big time."
Alexandra gave a nervous laugh. She was all for going out and celebrating her birthday, just like everyone her age, but she was a little scared about what Lilian would do. "We can go out and celebrate, but nothing crazy," Alexandra said as she repositioned herself.
"Fine, spoilsport," Lilian said as a smile came over her face.
Alexandra just shocked her face and prayed that nothing major or embarrassing would happen tonight.
Samual was sitting in the cafeteria, reviewing his notes for his business classes for this semester. He had been out of sorts for the last few weeks and couldn't figure out why. As he tried to concentrate on his notes, Brad, Samual's oldest friend, walked in and beelined it for the empty seat in front of Samual. Samual put his notebook down and looked at Brad's approach with amusement. "What are you doing?" Samual asked as he took a drink from his water.
"I have information that I thought you would want to know, but if you don't, I can just go away," Brad said.
Samual looked at him, trying to determine if the information would be worth whatever trouble Brad was cooking up. "First tell me, then I will let you know if I am in or not," Samual said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Valid point, but believe me, when you find out, you are going to reward me with whatever I want," Brad said.
"Okay, enough of this back and forth. Tell me your big news." Samual said, repositioning himself.
"There seems to be some celebration going on tonight at Savage. Someone is turning 21 and going out to celebrate," Brad said, looking intensely at Samual.
"Why are you talking like that?" Samual asked. He knew precisely who Brad was talking about. Alexandra had been one of the reasons why he had come to this school. He knew that Alexandra hated him for what happened in sophomore year in high school, but he had no idea that Britney had planned something and that it would affect Alexandra that badly.
Samual remembers the first day he arrived at school, his parents had moved jobs, and he had to leave all his friends behind. He had to start all over again, and it didn't help that he had to begin in sophomore year. He had been waiting in the main office when Alexandra had walked in, a smile on her face as she headed for the secretary. Samual didn't know who she was then, but she had stolen his breath.
"Good morning, Alexandra. How are you doing today?" Gloria, the principal's secretary, asked as Alexandra approached her desk.
"I am doing great today, Ms. Gloria; how are you ?" Alexandra asked as she stood in front of her desk.
"I am doing great as well, Alexandra. Today we have a new student. His name is Samual," Gloria said as she motioned for me to come forward, "we need you to show him around the school and help him find his classes today."
Alexandra took the paper that Ms. Gloria handed her and took a quick look at it, "No problem, I will show him around," Alexandra said, looking back at Gloria with a smile. Alexandra then turned toward Samual and extended her hand, "Nice to meet you, Samual," Alexandra said.
Samual extended his hand and took hers, "It is nice to meet you too." Samual said, still fascinated by Alexandra's smile.
"Let's go. I will show you your classes, and as we make our way, I will show you the cafeteria and other places.
Samual remembers that Alexandra took much care to ensure that he felt included and was shown the whole campus. After that day, Samual started to get more familiar with the school and joined the sports he did back at his old house. He didn't see much of Alexandra, but there were times when he would glimpse her as they were walking between classes or heading to lunch. For the most part, everything was pretty normal, as Samual believed, until the school dance and Britney's evil plan.
Samual didn't find out what Britney was up to until he saw Alexandra's face of disappointment and investment once Britney began to make fun of her. Samual will admit that he had stood frozen when this ordeal started. The last thing he remembers is seeing Alexandra's back as she exited the Gym where the school dance was being held.
"No reason," Brad said, "So, do you want to go out tonight, or are you going to be studying some more?" Brad asked as he took Samuel's notebook and flipped through it.
"We will go out tonight," Samual said as he gathered his things and put them in his backpack.
"Where are you going?" Brad asked as he looked at Samual.
"I have to get to class; I will see you tonight," Samual said, getting up from his chair and heading out.
Brad stayed in his seat and looked at his friend as he left the cafeteria. Brad shook his head. Samual's life could have been so different if fate had been kinder. But there are times when fate knows what it's doing because we might not be ready for what it is trying to give us.
