As I stood at the edge of the cliff, the vast expanse of the ocean stretched out before me, its waves crashing against the rugged rocks below. The salty breeze tugged at my hair, and I took a drag from my cigarette, savoring the familiar burn.
Loneliness settled in my chest like an old friend. It was a feeling I had grown accustomed to over the years although having the presence of people around me, but it never got any easier. The memories of happier times flooded my mind, like an old black-and-white movie reel playing in slow motion.
I remembered the laughter of people who I had decided to drift away, the warmth of embraces that now seemed distant. The smiles and shared secrets, the long nights talking about our dreams and fears. Those moments felt like a lifetime ago, a part of a world I could no longer touch,and that was filled with a lot of lies.
