Iris and Gavriel sat facing each other in the second-floor living room area.
As they started a conversation, Iris couldn't help but feel distressed, knowing the possibility of her grandmother coming to the second floor.
"Can we talk somewhere? I'm worried my grandmother might be confused about seeing you here," Iris looked after Gavriel.
"You don't need to worry about that. I'm invisible to everyone but you," Gavriel assured her. His unwavering gaze fixed on the worried girl before him.
"Y-You, not real?" Iris asked, her confusion flashing through her eyes as she heard his words; he was invisible to everyone except her.
Gavriel sat up straight in response, his upper lip curling into a slight, cold smile. In the blink of an eye, he disappeared and appeared beside Iris, slowly tilting his head closer to her. He stopped his movements just inches in front of her face to enjoy the sight of her shocked expression.
He felt amused looking at the girl trying to pull her head away from him. His hand rose, gently touching her chin, guiding her face to meet his gaze.
Their eyes locked before he said, "I am real. And I can touch you, Miss Gray!" After observing Iris's suprised expression, he vanished again before reappearing, sitting in his seat.
Everything happened so fast.
Iris was utterly shocked; her body froze. She could find it difficult to move — this was the first time she had witnessed someone teleport before her.
'Who is this person?' she wonders. After a few seconds had passed, Iris finally managed to gather her thoughts and summon her courage, determined not to be too intimidated by this enigmatic man before her.
"Other people can see me too, but only if I allow it," Gavriel explained, clapping his hands while maintaining a warm smile directed at Iris. "So, what were we discussing earlier?" he inquired.
"We were talking about God's Helpers," Iris replied.
"Your reincarnation did not simply bring you back to life in this girl's body. Instead, you have a mission to fulfill—a mission connected to your past life as an assassin—" Gavriel's words hung in the air as he observed Iris, waiting for her reaction.
Iris felt her throat almost choke after hearing his words. How could she reincarnate to be an assassin again?
She had longed to enjoy her second life as an ordinary citizen, living peacefully in this small town, far from her former world. Yet, it appeared fate had a different plan for her—an unexpected mission.
"You mean I am expected to become a professional killer again?" Her tone conveyed her unhappiness, leaving no doubt that she was displeased with her assigned mission.
"Yeah, sort of!" Gavriel chuckled as he observed the sullen expression on the young girl's face. It seemed as though a dark cloud was hovering above her head. "Miss Gray, you—"
Iris stops him to continue his words, "Gavriel, please just call me Iris. I assume you are much older than me, aren't you?"
Iris had been speculating whether Gavriel was an immortal or even a god. He's not human. No normal human being can disappear and reappear immediately and easily control people's minds.
"Fine! I'll call you Iris," Gavriel responded with a warm smile. "Well, when you met Old White, you had the option to choose not to be reincarnated and pursue your number one choice," he paused, noticing Iris's rapid blinking and her hands tightly clenched, a clear sign of nervousness and fear. He found it rather amusing.
Taking his time, Gavriel enjoyed the sight of Iris's fearful expression before speaking in a deliberate and unhurried manner, "Well, if I'm not mistaken, your first choice was to go straight to hell, wasn't it?"
Iris's mouth twitched.
How could she possibly answer that?
The mere thought of being damned to hell made her headache. And she felt as if the whole zoo was dancing in her stomach. Every nerve in her body seemed to tremble, adding to her sense of unease.
All she could manage was a nod in response to his question.
"Now, do you still find it unfair to be reincarnated as an assassin once again?" Gavriel's voice was reminiscent of someone trying to discipline their stubborn younger sibling.
"No! This is the right choice," Iris said, forcing a smile even though her heart was filled with sorrow.
Her prayer to God for a peaceful retirement had been rejected. How sad!
Iris couldn't help but feel that her reincarnation was one of God's punishments for her. To continue living in constant fear and vigilance, a never-ending torment until God retook her life.
If given the choice, she would instead embrace the fires of hell than return to this wretched world after her second death!
Now, only one thing fueled Iris's will to keep going: the burning desire to find that asshole, Eric, and send him straight to the depths of hell!
At least in this second life, she could find solace in seeking revenge.
...
Iris turned her gaze towards Gavriel, who was now observing her with his piercing eyes.
With a silent gulp, she gathered the courage to ask, "So, what does GH have to do with my mission as an assassin?"
"GH is short for God's Helpers," Gavriel explained calmly, though his words resonated in Iris's ears like thunder. "I am one of many. And we are here in this world to fulfill God's missions. Each of us has a unique assignment, and you are the new GH and your mission as an assassin."
Iris fell momentarily silent, unsure how to react to such a statement. However, one thing piqued her curiosity—there were many GH in this world, and she wanted to learn more about them.
"Don't worry, Iris," Gavriel reassured her. "Although you will be taking lives, your targets will be sinners who are immune to this world's laws and take pleasure in hurting others. Your task is to end their lives, and someone else will come to collect their souls. That's all."
Iris nodded, understanding the concept. The point was clear—she would still take lives. The difference is that in her previous life, Eric was her boss, whereas now, her boss was God.
