Chapter 4 - A New Beginning

Leo woke up by a sudden slap to the face. He was dazed for a second before reaching his hand to push it away. He turned to his side and saw Liam still sleeping while snoring loudly. He placed Liam's hand back to where it came from and sat up.

"What's the time?"He mumbled to himself and slid to the side. As his eyes were about to land on the window, he felt a sudden force on his abdomen and pushed him back onto the bed.

What the hell was that? He thought as he raised his head and looked down. He saw Liam's leg on his stomach and sighed. I should have known...

He pushed his leg away and patted him on his hand.

"Hey! Wake up! It's your new day today!"He called while Liam groaned and turned the opposite side from him. His back was now facing Leo.

What a deep sleeper...

Leo sighed again and slid down the bed. He walked to the door and pushed it open. Morning breezes flew through his face as he stepped on the grounds. The sun was shining brightly down on him as he did some stretching.

Until something muffled yelled at him from behind, he turned around and his eyes landed on the door to Liam's house while stomping footsteps dashing to his location could be heard too. Within seconds, the door flung open revealing Liam, his face looked horrible like he didn't have a good night's sleep.

"Why didn't you wake me up?!"He yelled while some passing villagers looked at him, shocked but soon continued to do their job.

"Well, I did call but you were so asleep that you didn't hear me."Leo replied as Liam's face turned bright red."So I decided to come out and take a morning stroll but it seems like someone decided to wake up."

"I...I..."Liam couldn't think of a comeback while his cheeks flushed, brightly with embarrassment. "Why don't you wear a shirt before you walk out?!"He yelled, deciding it was best to change the topic.

"Why not? I already said your shirt doesn't suit me, so? And don't the ladies love these kinds of muscles?"He said while flexing.

"Don't go too overboard and self-confident...If it were me I would think you're a pervert."

"And why is that?"He said while switching his gaze to three women, walking past them and looking at them.

Leo pointed to them.

"Look at them! Do they look like they feel disgusted?"

Liam turned to the ladies and saw them peeking at them, laughing while quickly speed walked away. He felt that they must be talking about something bad about them, rumors will spread soon...

Liam sighed while Leo tilted his head, confused. As Leo was about to open his mouth to speak, Liam interrupted.

"Let's just forget about that so...What are we going to do on the first day of our adventure?"

"Well..."Leo mumbled hesitantly."Since you're just a beginner in using a bow..."

"I think it would be best if we continued practicing your aiming skill!"Leo said as he was done, thinking about their plans for the day.

"Huh? But you already saw my skill...Didn't you say I was born with this kind of talent!"

"True but don't get too cocky! This time you're facing a living being and I have just the right creature for you!"

"You sure it's going to be safe..."Liam said, doubtfully.

"Yup! 100% safe!"

"All right..."

"Follow me!"

As Leo was about to take his first step, his feet froze in mid-air. He unexpectedly turned around to face Liam and Liam flinched, taken aback by his sudden change. Liam's face was just a few inches away from his chest.

"Why did you suddenly turn around?"He asked while looking up at him, confused."Are we going to-"

He was cut off by a sudden laughter. Leo laughed, loudly while Liam stood there stunned.

"What?!"He yelled while a dozen questions forming up in his head.

"Is...Is just..."Leo said while trying to contain his laughter, which made Liam worried, thinking there was a little problem with his mind."It's just that I didn't know you were so small!"

"What?!"Liam yelled in surprise while his cheeks began to flush."What's that got to do with what we're doing now?!"

"I didn't notice you were this short."He chuckled and Liam's cheeks turned red like a tomato.

"You..."Liam sighed, his face still blushing slightly."Forget about it...What were you going to ask? Or did you really just turn around to laugh at my height?"

"Ah...right!As what I was going to ask..."He went to his original tone."Do you have any potion shops here?"

"No, Why?"Liam asked, tilting his head.

"Well...we can use potions to enhance our weapons. Even though it would be best to have a pet but they cost a ton..."

"What do you mean 'pet'?"

"You don't know?"

Liam nodded.

"Well...you know dragon scales are very precious but are poisonous to humans, right?"

Liam nodded again.

"While traveling, me and my former guild member stumbled upon a creature eating the scale and after some time its whole body was lit up in flames. But for some reason, it didn't die even after an hour and continued walking around the area. Soon, we saw some people carrying pets with them on adventures and most of them have special abilities. So, you could say when animals eat dragon scales, they can be granted with special abilities.

Liam stared at him, dumbfounded. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, it was like something out of a storybook.

"I know it sounds fake but you got to believe me!"

"I didn't say I don't believe you! I was just shocked...And I can't say anything since you know the outside world better than me."

"Exactly!"

"Why don't we get one?"

"Like I say they cost a ton! Since this place doesn't have a potion shop I might as well see what I got...Wait...where is my bag?"He asked while looking around.

"Have you forgotten? They were soaking wet..."

"Ah...right...yesterday...Are they dry yet?"

"I'll go and check."

"Thanks!"

After a while, Liam came back with a huge laundry on his hands. There was his bag covered under by both their previous clothes.

"Here! And wear your damn clothes!"

"Yes, yes..."Leo said while wearing his clothes and changing his shorts.

"Bro...We're outside!"Liam said, nervously when he saw Leo taking off his shorts.

"There's no one here!"

"I ain't like you! I'm going in to change."

"Suit yourself."

By the time, Liam came out, fully dressed. He saw Leo well dressed and kneeling on the ground while rummaging through his bag.

He began to mumble to himself."3 healing potions, one poison resistance, one fire potion and..."

He dug for some time before pulling out a potion, which was dark purple.

"Poison potion...and I guess that's all...Oh! Your back!"He said while switching his gaze to Liam.

"Ya...It's not that long to change clothes anyway."He replied but soon changed the topic."You finished searching?"

"Oh...you mean this? Yup...but too bad this is all I have."

"We can find them in another town, right?"

"Yup! And I already planned where to go next...Are you ready to leave your home?"

There was complete silence while Liam was staring at his house.

"I packed all the things, I need just now...So I guess I'm ready to set off on this adventure..."He said with a mixture of sadness and uncertainty.

"Do you want to say some final words before you leave? It does make me feel a little better when I first leave to live my dream."

Liam opened his mouth while smiling a little and said in a sad and happy tone.

"Goodbye Mother..."Those were the final words that flowed out of his mouth before he turned back to Leo with an excited voice."I'm done! Let's go!"

And that was when these two adventurers' journeys started.
