The process of getting rice was long and laborious. She wanted to cultivate the plant in her garden, but a large amount of water was needed to grow it properly. For now, she was satisfied with cutting the stalks with golden grains and bringing them home.
After drying for several days, she separated the rice grains from the stalks by threshing and tossing the mixture into the air to let the wind blow away the chaff and husks. After such hard work, only a half jar of white rice was acquired. Because there was just enough for one or two meals for them, she stored it in cool a dry place for better occasions.
Since she finally got her long-awaited rice, she had to move forward with her olive oil-extracting plan. Since the previous incident left a scar on her, she was avoiding the city for a while but eventually had to return due to her teaching contract.
