Lihua felt a puff of air brushing over her, making her shiver. The strong presence of a man enveloped her as she remained rooted to her place. She hung her head low and drew in a deep breath.
'It's him. Right by my side.'
Lingyun glanced down at the girl who was trying to stow away from his gaze. He had purposefully walked over to stand beside her and watching the girl quiver under his survey made him amused. "Are you waiting for someone?"
Lihua was stunned at his question. Why did he think that she was perhaps waiting for someone? Wasn't it him who was waiting for Mengrui to return back from the washroom so they could leave together like a couple?
Not receiving a reply made Lingyun frown. Was this girl unwilling to answer him? He couldn't discern the face of the girl, as he was almost one foot taller than her. The top of her head which was covered by a denim baseball cap was the only view he got.
"Perhaps for the man with whom you were having lunch.", he added.
Lihua tilted her head slightly upwards and answered, "No, he already left."
Her sweet voice drifted to his ears, tantalizing him. He narrowed his gaze, trying to catch the details of her face but couldn't as the cap casted a dingy shadow on her features under the golden incandescent lights. He wanted to rip off her cap to quench his curiosity.
"Were you abandoned? Was he your boyfriend?"
"No." Lihua bit her lips at his mocking words. "Mister can you stop asking me questions and mind your business?"
'So this cat knows how to bite?' Lingyun smirked.
"I did want to mind my own business but what beats me is you feel very familiar."
"No, I don't know you." Lihua clenched her fists and this action didn't go unnoticed by Lingyun. "There is no way you would know me either."
It's not just a suspicion—he was sure of it. "You are lying."
Lihua's nails dug deep into her palms. If she uncurled her fist she would find blood oozing out. She somehow wanted to disappear. If she possibly knew black magic then she would've teleported herself to the car park by now, far away from the presence of the heir to the devil himself.
"And you are trying to avoid me?"
Red crept her neck at his honest remark. She didn't know why she was hiding from him and she felt guilty. She didn't know how to face him after all these years.
As she had tied her hair in a ponytail her slender neck was uncovered. She was dressed modestly, but the slight view of her delicate skin was enough to set fire in his bottomless eyes. He wanted to hide any sliver of her translucent skin that was showing from the gazes of other men standing in the hallway.
"Lingyun dage!" A sharp voice distracted their attention.
Lihua could recognize that annoying voice even in her nightmares, but for the first time she was glad that she had come to interfere.
"Did you wait too long for me?" Mengrui said in an alluring voice.
"Mengrui did somehow hit you?" Lingyun was somewhat shocked to see the blood clot on her upper lip and right cheek swollen which she had tried to cover by fresh makeup.
Mengrui's palms turned cold. The moment she saw Lihua standing beside Lingyun she was at her wits end. Just how much did this pretentious bitch tell him?
"I just fell down in the washroom. It was slippery." She lied. "Looks like it has stopped raining. Let's leave now."
She almost dragged Lingyun out of the hallway, forcing him to look ahead. When she looked back to check whether Lihua was following them she found her smiling menacingly.
Lihua's deadly smile deepened just after their eyes locked. She halted in her tracks and mouthed, "You better be careful."
Mengrui's whole body shook as she read her lips, but she felt a bit relieved because she had stopped following them.
"Were you talking to that girl standing beside you? Do you know her?" Mengrui asked, nervously.
"En." Lingyun fished out his car keys from his trousers pocket. "But I don't know her."
"What did she say?"
"Nothing much." Lingyun eyed her anxious face as he unlocked his black Mercedes Benz. He had a feeling that something was off.
"Then it's fine." Mengrui quickly sat down in the front passenger seat to avoid his questioning look and let out a breath. Lihua had not sold her out yet.
That bitch had some nerve to threaten her! If she tries to pull any tricks then she can say goodbye to her mother's properties!
