Chapter 17 - Tough Shark Meat

In the morning, Drayan bandaged his wounds, and also looked for a new outfit to wear. He found a brown hooded coat and black pants.

Drayan now, was in a very complicated situation. He really wanted to eat the mutant meat. But when he activated his mutated wolf bodily genes and used his teeth to bite off a chunk of the creature, his teeth couldn't penetrate the flesh.

All he managed to do with the mutated wolf's teeth was small scratches on the shark's skin.

It's strange, Drayan last time, managed to eat a piece of shark meat when his modified killer fish brought it to him, but now he couldn't eat anymore. It was as if the creature's skin had grown tougher since that day.

Normally, after the creature dies, its meat becomes softer and easier to digest, this is due to the lack of energy and nutrients needed to keep its body strong.

As the dead shark will no longer feed, it gets weaker over time, but as its cells have weakened after death, its body also weakens, causing the dead shark to become weaker instantly.

But the shark is an exception. Even dead, its flesh was still tough. Of course, the meat had become less resistant, but still, the meat was much tougher than it should have been.

With the wolf's teeth, he should have been able to chew the meat after he'd killed the shark. It even seemed that the shark had a resistance superior to that of a mutated creature.

If the skin was not possible, then the organs could be softer to eat. However, Drayan didn't have any good weapons to cut the shark's belly, and explore the creature's interior.

After a few minutes, Drayan had an idea.

He summoned the vines that came out of the palm of his left hand, and entered the shark's mouth.

He used the vines to search and pull out the shark's organs inside.

He pulled, and pulled. But it was too heavy.

*How can your organs be so heavy?! It feels like I'm trying to pull tons of weight.*

Organs actually weren't heavy for Drayan. Drayan was having difficulty pulling a specific organ because the shark's throat was narrow and it was difficult to pull a large organ through the shark's mouth.

Drayan spent ten minutes trying to pull that organ out, until Drayan slipped backwards, and pulled the shark's stomach out, cruelly tearing the creature's throat.

Normally, it would be impossible to pull the stomach out of the shark's throat, but since the shark is a mutated creature, its throat has evolved to become wider to swallow larger creatures.

The saw shark before its evolution, was skinny, but after evolution, it got more fat, becoming a large shark. In terms of width, the saw shark is not much different from the white shark, after evolution.

Of course, their appearances weren't the same, as each one belonged to a different group of sharks. However, the saw shark gained much more fat after its evolution.

The stomach was big and heavy, and it was wet with blood, it was pretty gross. But for Drayan, who was already used to eating all kinds of creatures, for him, it was just rare meat with ketchup.

He used his only hand to eat the stomach. As expected, the organs were weaker than the shark's skin, but even so, Drayan had to use the wolf's teeth to be able to chew.

As he chewed, he felt his teeth nearly break as he chewed on something harder than stone.

*A bone in the stomach?* — Drayan thought.

To find out what it was, Drayan pulled the 'bone' out of his mouth.

He was surprised by what he saw.

"A crystal?" — Drayan had pulled a Crystal from his mouth.

*Is it dangerous?*

He then decided to disable the teeth, and summon Darkening.

"Is swallowing this a good idea, Darkening? Will it make me look bad?"

Drayan placed the Crystal near Darkening for him to smell. Darkening used his black nose to sniff the Crystal three times, then sat up.

Darkening, he stared at the Crystal in Drayan's hand.

"Hmm?"

Darkening tilted his head to the side, and Drayan did the same. Darkening turned again, and Drayan repeated the movement.

It was as if Drayan was mimicking Darkening's movements. Drayan's reason for doing this was because he wanted to understand what the Darkening was thinking about the Crystal, but he didn't understand what the Darkening was trying to say.

"Uah!" — After Darkening finished his analysis of the Crystal, the wolf jumped on Drayan, knocking him to the ground.

"What are you doing?! Did you revolt?!"

Drayan was startled by the wolf's sudden behavior, but Darkening didn't attack Drayan, all the wolf wanted was the Crystal.

Darkening tried to lick the Crystal, sticking out his tongue, but Drayan quickly moved his hand away from the wolf's red tongue.

"Hey! That's mine!"

Darkening was looking at the Crystal, as if it were something tasty.

"Woof! Woof!"

"What? Do you really want to eat this?"

"Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!"

"Blimey, you really want to eat this. But if you want to eat, it means that this shiny object is very important. So I won't give it to you."

Darkening kept his ears down with his tail between his legs. The wolf looked at Drayan with a depressed look, and then turned away, backing into a corner.

"It's no use being sad."

Leaving the wolf aside, Drayan looked at the blue Crystal. The Crystal was really beautiful when he looked closer. It was a thin Crystal and a little long. It looked fragile, but it was harder than diamond. It was radiant, it looked like something that could be worth millions before the apocalypse.

*That's the Crystal that the saw shark swallowed that day, right? I don't know what I'm supposed to do with it...*

Drayan scratched his head and slipped the Crystal into his pants pocket.

Drayan began to wonder what he would do when he ate the entire body of the shark. He could split the body to feed one of his creatures.

He had Cent, Darkening, and Canine.

The best choice would be Cent, but it was too risky to make him that strong. Drayan wants to get stronger than Cent to keep Cent in check.

But is it really possible to keep Cent under control? Is anyone able to control the King of green centipedes?

Drayan was trying to control the cells and microorganisms of the Smiling Fang in order to be able to summon him in his young form, and in the future in his adult form, so until he manages to do that, he will have to keep the Fang only as a weak puppy.

The Canine is not a good option right now. The best option would be Darkening. Darkening is obedient and faithful to the owner, Drayan also feels enormous gratitude towards the wolf, when he saved his life, and wants to reward the wolf in some way.

The two of them may only have been together for three months, but Drayan has nurtured him since he was a puppy, and has made him grow and strong.

The wolf is a mutated creature, and also an intelligent one. Darkening is very respectful of its owner, and Drayan trusts Darkening a lot.

*I've already been feeding Darkening for a while, and if I feed him the mutated shark, it's sure that in a few months, or in the worst case scenario, in a year, he'll have already turned into an adult, maybe.*

Creatures don't evolve instantly, at least there hasn't been any cases of that happening. It was necessary to feed the creature in order to grow, even if the nutrients are at a high level, it may still take some time for growth to happen. It takes even longer for mutant-level creatures, and especially for modified mutant-level creatures, to grow to adulthood.

The mutated wolf, every day was growing, it could be insignificant growth, which went unnoticed by human eyes, but he was still growing.

*I've made up my mind, I'm going to share the body with Darkening.*

Drayan was unwilling to give the Darkening meat, only the bones, so that the Darkening could get the nutrients and use them to feed the cells and evolve.

But it wouldn't make sense to think about that now, when he can't even eat the tough shark meat. In order for him to be able to eat the meat, he needed to find a way to obtain a high-level body and some skill that would increase his jaw strength capacity.

He could use the mutated nutrients he got from the shark to strengthen his jaw, but he didn't want to waste nutrients that were so important.

Drayan could use the mutated nutrients to evolve his cells, but he didn't have enough nutrients to evolve his body to a new stage of power, and even if he got a new body, he wasn't sure if that would be enough to eat the flesh. Drayan would have to wait a few days for the meat to get softer.

However, Drayan wanted to heal quickly from his injuries, he didn't want to wait too long. The flesh of a low-level mutated hatchling lasts for about seven days, an adult creature would last for two weeks. Drayan feared the meat would not be tender enough for him to eat within a week.

The shark was also large and had a lot of meat, Drayan was planning to eat most of the body himself before the Shark's body disintegrated, turning to just ashes.

He wanted to get some of the shark's skill genes, and he wanted to get his right arm back, although he didn't know if eating the shark's meat would be enough to make his arm grow.

Drayan couldn't eat such a shark in a single day, and he theorized that three days would be enough for him to eat the shark. Which means Drayan can wait for the body to soften for four days, and the remaining three days he would eat the creature.

*This is going to take a long time, is there no way I can start eating this meat today? Using the vines to pull the organs is very difficult...*

Drayan couldn't think of any solutions for now, so he went hunting and see if any ideas would pop into his head.
