In no time, Caroline appeared in front of Blaze with a black robe and black cloak in her hands.
Blaze covered his body with dirt to hide his tattoos. He wore the robe and said, "Lead the way."
Under Caroline's guidance, Blaze and Caroline advanced past the gate, slipping through without encountering any resistance from the guards. The night enveloped them in a hushed stillness, interrupted only by the occasional passing patrols of soldiers. The streets were deserted, with the glow of candlelight emanating from the windows of houses as their occupants sought solace within their abodes. Caroline led Blaze to the top of the brothel.
Caroline said calmly, "Let me go get you food," and was about to leave, but Blaze stopped her. He had a bigger problem.
"Wait. Answer me honestly. Did the blacksmith see your face?" Blaze asked calmly, but he had already started releasing his killing intent. Since he entered the town, an uncomfortable feeling settled upon him.
"No," Caroline denied even though she felt her skin crawling.
Blaze's eyes narrowed as he pressed further, his voice carrying a hint of menace. "Where is his house?" he demanded.
Caught off guard, Caroline stuttered, her voice trembling ever so slightly. "What do you want?" she managed to ask, her fear intertwining with curiosity.
A smirk played on Blaze's lips as he revealed his intentions. "I want to ask him myself,"
Realizing the futility of concealing the truth any longer, Caroline reluctantly admitted, "Fine, he saw me."
"Why are you protecting him?" Blaze asked with raised eyebrows. He never believed in selflessness.
As Blaze's killing intent permeated the air, he began to realize the limitations of its effectiveness. It dawned upon him that as individuals grew more powerful, their resistance to such intimidation increased. A new problem presented itself, challenging his approach and forcing him to reassess his strategies.
Caroline, feeling the weight of her actions, mustered the courage to speak, her voice tinged with remorse. "He saved me when I arrived in this city. So, when you brought the large amount of gold coins, I thought of offering him the deal. However, it ultimately led to his downfall," she confessed, raising her head to meet Blaze's gaze.
But Blaze's resolve remained unshaken, his eyes unwavering in the face of Caroline's admission. "That's life," he responded calmly, his words carrying a chilling ruthlessness. "In the end, it's either you or him. One person has to die to disrupt the chain. Someone will inevitably connect the link in the chain. Risking my life for the sake of a stranger is not in my code."
"The manor at the East of the city," Caroline gave the location when her life was placed on the line. Though she had limited knowledge of Blaze, his demeanor and aura resonated with a similar ruthlessness she had sensed in Lord Ezra.
Caroline found herself caught in the midst of two ruthless individuals, completely unaware of the true nature of their intentions. What had initially seemed like a chance to earn some money from Blaze had now entangled her in a dangerous game she had not anticipated. She couldn't help but feel as though she had unwittingly stepped into the clutches of the devil himself, surrounded by forces beyond her control.
"You prepared those things I asked for you?" Blaze asked, the moonlight flashing on his face.
Caroline nodded weakly.
"Go bring them," Blaze said and leaned into the chair. Caroline walked away silently.
"She is already feeling dissatisfied. Either you kill her to stop any unforeseen consequences, or you do something else to her. You can feel it. Don't tell me she made you grow soft so easily?" Aphrodite said while walking around the room without looking at Blaze.
Blaze nodded slowly, as he also saw the problem.
"I never knew you were ruthless," Blaze said calmly.
"I'm just trying to stop anything from killing you as your secretary," Aphrodite revealed a heart-warming smile.
"Do you have any idea how to settle this?" Blaze asked after thinking for a while without finding any solution.
Aphrodite leaned in closer, her voice lowered to a near whisper as she shared something with Blaze. His brows furrowed in bewilderment, for he was the only one capable of hearing her words. Her occasional enigmatic behavior had become a familiar occurrence to him, and he had learned to tolerate and adapt to it.
As Aphrodite pulled back, Blaze's expression remained composed, though a flicker of curiosity danced in his eyes. He absorbed the whispered information, processing its implications and analyzing loopholes.
After much thought, Blaze smiled and said. "Although your idea is good, it's too straightforward. Let me show you how things work on Earth."
A smirk that made Aphrodite uncomfortable etched on Blaze's lips.
When Caroline returned with the package in a chest, Blaze kept it by his side and began speaking with her.
During the extensive conversation between Blaze and Caroline, her face underwent a tumultuous transformation, contorting into various expressions ranging from a grimace to a smile and then twisting again. The emotional rollercoaster she experienced was evident as she processed the information and absorbed the implications of their discussion.
The conversation lasted for thirty minutes. After they were done, Caroline walked away and closed the door.
"What a cruel plan. You used it on Earth?" Aphrodite asked.
Blaze walked to the chest and opened it. "Yeah, it's normal among some powerful people. Not everybody could use it though," he said calmly.
Blaze's eyes were drawn to a carefully arranged ensemble laid out before him. It was a set of black attire and a black mask, seemingly prepared with purpose.
Without hesitation, Blaze swiftly changed into the attire, recognizing the significance of the dark ensemble. The outfit consisted of a black long-sleeve shirt that hugged his form, emphasizing his physique, along with a pair of black tight trousers that allowed for ease of movement. He slipped on a pair of short black boots, ensuring his steps were silent and agile. Completing the ensemble was a black knee-length cloak that draped over his shoulders, adding an air of mystery and stealth to his appearance.
"She has a good fashion sense," Blaze said in satisfaction before donning the mask.
The mask had been intricately carved to fit his face, and its eyes were adorned with black glasses, adding an air of mystery and concealment.
It was the attire Blaze told her to prepare before he left, but he didn't specify. He only said that it has to be pure black.
"This mask looks customized. I hope she didn't reveal her face again when she was doing it. Well…" Blaze mumbled before jumping out the window. Like an agile cat, Blaze swiftly jumped out of the building.
