Sethryn felt more motivated to take down the Green Magic Mantis. He had forcibly levelled up against his will, thanks to the overwhelming strength of the mantis that pushed him to his limits.
He regretted his action but he had to do it if he wished to survive. It was a tough decision for him.
Regardless, Sethryn appreciated the fact that he was battling a level six magic beast like the Green Magic Mantis, and that came with a lot of positive progress if he wins. It meant better rewards, higher categories of mana cores to possess and who knows... perhaps a skill.
Sethryn had landed a blow on the winged creature before smirking with satisfaction.
His level up from level two to level eight boosted his all-round ability. Sethryn felt fresh out of a bath. He felt stronger and faster than he was seconds ago.
Sethryn gained the life point boost of the +6 level ups that he used. His life points maxed out, shooting up from a measly 152 LP to 1352 LP.
That was not all. His wounds had healed with the maximum level up. At the moment, Sethryn was at the peak of his strength and without any injuries.

Sethryn clenched and relaxed his right hand repeatedly a couple of times. He was taking it all in — the sensation that came with newfound power.
The mantis hissed and screeched backwards three steps.
Sethryn started to laugh.
"Are you afraid now?" he teased the creature.
"Come on, let's see what you've got."
As the player was bragging, overconfident because of his level up, an envelope icon appeared and he received the notification, but he was too deep in the zone to realise it.

Undeterred, the mantis responded to its prey's sudden power up with a burst of magic, casting an intricate spell that sent ripples of energy cascading through the air.
Sethryn's shield absorbed the brunt of the impact, the arcane energies crackling and dispersing harmlessly around him.
He gritted his teeth against the strain, determination etched across his face.
"Not bad, considering I'm two levels above you now."
Drawing upon his own well of magic, Sethryn channelled his mana into his shield, imbuing it with a radiant aura and further strengthening the technique he cast.

The shield glowed with a brilliant light as he charged forward, his movements swift and calculated.
The mantis' eyes widened in surprise as Sethryn's shield collided with its form, the magical aura he had created from his shield repelling the creature's own magic.
The battle was becoming evidently one-sided with the mantis pushed back by everything Sethryn did.
With renewed vigour, Sethryn pressed his advantage, striking at the mantis with a series of swift and precise attacks from his shield.
The mantis' movements grew sluggish as its magical energy waned, the deadly strikes that it once used at the start of the battle were reduced to feeble attempts.
Sethryn's shield continued to gleam with a radiant light, a beacon of his unwavering resolve.

Purple fluid splattered into the air, hitting the moss-covered archway, the ground, the trees and some even splashed on Sethryn.
He had landed the decisive blow in the match. In a swift spin, Sethryn utilised the connecting arm bracers that formed junctions for his shield as a blade, slicing through the mantis' weakened exoskeleton.
It was easier now that he was stronger and the creature had grown weaker. Like a hot knife through butter, he cut cleanly through the mantis.
The Green Magic Mantis shrieked and hissed, its movements disordered by this final attack. It let out a loud cry and fell to the ground, its form dissolving into bluish-white particles of mana.
The life point bar of the mantis turned red with the green colour on the bar, which signified life, slowly fading away. The whole bar turned red and beamed.

The forest seemed to exhale as the tension lifted, and Sethryn deactivated his shield, his chest heaving as he caught his breath.
The shield returned to its original arm bracers form and clutched onto his wrists.
The battle had been fierce, but his determination had proven unbreakable and in the end, Sethryn succeeded in defeating the Green Magic Mantis.

Sethryn was about to be overwhelmed by disappointment again. He really wanted better rewards especially since he bust his ass in this particular fight with the mantis.

Contrary to what he had played out in his mind, the bluish-white particle came together and formed three magical items.
Seeing them, Sethryn's heart filled with great joy.
The particles of the deceased mantis formed three items in front of him — a dagger and then, two purple mana cores.
Sethryn was almost excited to tears at the sight of the mana cores.
"Finally!" he exclaimed, clenching his fist.
He walked over and absorbed the mana cores without wasting any time. It was after that he even noticed the second item — the dagger.
