They drove in silence for awhile before vesper finally couldn't stand the cold silence that paired the chilly winter they were in.
"Where does your parents live Levi?"
"Dad lives in Kentucky with my two younger sisters."
"Oh my goodness you have little sisters and you failed to mention this till now?"
"I keep my distance to keep them safe Their half-siblings and different mom, dad remarried once my mom died."
"Oh Levi why do you have to have a sentimental sweet background and have a scary being living inside you? Can you just pick one please so I can at least feel somewhat okay for punching you for not telling me sooner?"
He chuckled as vesper mockingly punched his arm.
"Vesper I'm gonna fix the demon thing I promise." He said it with conviction but felt a sharp pain in his chest none the less after he had said it.
"You, hungry? It's a bit of a drive we can stop at a restaurant if you would like?"
Vesper mulled it over for a moment. "Yeah I could eat, stop at the next lunch place please."
Levi's stomach then growled as he suddenly felt famished and nauseous.
They found a truck stop diner about a mile off the freeway and Levi promptly parked the car and helped vesper out. Walking in the sweet smell of backed pie assaulted his nose and it smelled delightful. Vesper on the other hand was drooling as she stated "Oh man these burgers smell awesome."
They got seated pretty fast as a very sweet older lady waited on them. Levi ordered a Dr.Pip and Vesper got a C&C Cola.
Vesper ordered a basket of fried pickles and onions and some salt for an appetizer. she then ordered a 1/4lbs with pepper cheese and all the fixings except tomato cause her and tomato made her sick.
Levi promptly ordered a chocolate creamery pie and a small chicken strip basket with cheese curds. as they sat waiting Levi felt is stomach knot up at the smell of oil and Grease.
"Vesper does it smell kinda off in here?"
"Yep the food smells Devine I'm honestly surprised I haven't drowned in my own drul." She said this with sarcasm and humor.
"Maybe the oil just needs cleaned." He muttered quietly as she played on her phone patiently he watched uninterested in phones really keeping alert around them as the appetizer basket arrived vesper dug in and Levi nit picked.
Once there food arrived Levi dove into his pie that oozed hot chocolate. it melted in his mouth the sweetness relaxing all those tense muscles as he stuffed his face.
"Eat something other than sugar Levi. " vesper popped off.
"He did as he told the chicken and cheese making his stomach hurt but once it was over he ordered another slice of sweets and got, vesper one as well.
"Once they finished Levi paid their tab. His stomach trying to settle the pie seemed to set well the rest gave him a greasy taste in his mouth." He looked to vesper and his stomach seemed to jump and he felt saliva in his mouth increase if only briefly he felt nauseous and yet already famished again. He shook the feeling away and they left shortly after getting back on the freeway....
After some time vesper had begun to yawn the previous night must have drained her. He thought quietly as he pulled into a quiet hotel he got the last unbooked room it had a single bed and a shower he told vesper to shower and rest, as he sat at the desk space doing some research in his laptop on ancient history his curiosity of this demon peaked. He stumbled on no answer just a little note on the box being shipped to the states by priests for safeguarding. He sighed closing the laptop before going over to take a shower himself as vesper laid face down in the soft bed. He smiled and stepped away to clean away all that had happened.
"Vesper sighed, He is such a pain he doesn't have to stop for me I can sleep in the car." She grumbled to herself. Something seemed to whisper back in her mind as if her shadow could speak. "Ever think he might need to sleep?" she stopped for a moment taken a back that she was so greedily thinking of herself before him. "Maybe I should get him some food and let him rest." She mumbled before finding a room service menu and groaning when she noticed it was after hours. "Can a girl not get an easy break?" Just then Levi stepped out in plaid shorts and looked over at her.
"What ves did you say something?"
"Oh it's nothing we should get some sleep."
"Yeah I'm pretty tired." He yawned stretching the towel resting on his shoulders before he tossed it away and slipped into the bed.
"Night ves. "
"Good night Levi."
She clicked off the light and curled into bed beside him something made her feel as though she wasn't alone though with Levi.
