Chapter 7 - Adventurer's Guild

Luke and Private Roland entered the bustling halls of the Adventurer's Guild, their eyes wide with wonder at the array of adventurers preparing for quests and discussing their latest achievements. The air was filled with excitement and a sense of camaraderie.

However, as they made their way through the crowd, Luke couldn't help but notice a few adventurers giving them malicious stares. Whispers and mutters followed in their wake, fueled by prejudice and skepticism. Luke's heart sank, realizing that their presence as a soldier and a young boy was not entirely welcomed by everyone.

Roland noticed the discomfort in Luke's expression and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Don't let them bother you, Luke," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "There will always be those who judge and underestimate others based on appearances. But we're here to prove them wrong."

Luke nodded, grateful for Roland's support. He took a deep breath, steadying himself, and held his head high.

As they passed groups of adventurers, some gave them skeptical glances, their expressions filled with doubt and disdain. The combination of a soldier and a young boy in an adventurer's guild seemed strange to them.

Luke overheard snippets of conversation, whispers of criticism. "What's a soldier doing here? This isn't a place for military types." "And why is there a kid with him? He's going to either get himself killed or someone else."

But amidst the judgmental gazes, there were a few adventurers who looked at Luke and Roland with curiosity and open-mindedness. These individuals recognized that appearances could be deceiving and that true strength and potential could come from unexpected sources.

Roland, ever the optimist, addressed Luke with a smile. "See, Luke? Not everyone here judges us solely based on appearances. You'll find allies and like-minded individuals who see the potential in our unique combination."

Luke nodded, taking comfort in Roland's words. He understood that their path might be challenging, but he was determined to not let other people's doubts stunt his growth.

As they approached the reception desk, Roland's face brightened. "Ah, there's Stephanie!" he exclaimed, recognizing the receptionist. "We go way back. She'll help us out."

Stephanie, a friendly and efficient receptionist, greeted them with a warm smile. "Roland!, it's been a while! How can I assist you today?"

Roland leaned closer and whispered, "We need a private room, Stephanie. My friend here needs to use the class-grant scroll to choose a new job and class, I'll pay for it."

Stephanie's eyes widened with curiosity. "Oh, that's exciting! Follow me, I'll show you to a vacant room where you can make your decision in peace, away from the judgmental gazes of the main hall."

Luke and Roland followed Stephanie through the bustling guild, passing adventurers discussing their latest quests and traders showcasing their wares. Eventually, they arrived at a quiet room, away from the hustle and bustle of the main hall.

Inside the room, Stephanie gestured for them to have a seat. Luke's curiosity got the better of him, and he couldn't help but ask, "Roland, what exactly is a class-grant scroll?"

Roland smiled, eager to share his knowledge. "Ah, the class-grant scroll is a powerful artifact that can grant adventurers a class. It's a rare creation from the greatest mage in history, AURELIUS STORMRIDER. Once the scroll is activated, it assesses the user's potential and grants them the class that has been magically imprinted on the scroll"

Luke's eyes widened with fascination. "So, it can give me a class? That sounds incredible. What happens after the class is granted?"

Roland nodded, explaining further. "After the class is granted, adventurers can learn skills that are related to the class they have received. These skills enhance their abilities and allow them to perform unique feats. It's an essential part of an adventurer's growth and development."

"the scroll this time is a common-rank scroll so it'd be able to grant a common rank class, but with time you'd be able to accumulate enough experience to upgrade to a higher rank class"

Luke's excitement grew as he absorbed the information. The idea of gaining a class and learning skills that could shape his abilities was exhilarating but he already had a class, what would happen if he got granted another? Would he have two class? Luke couldn't hold his excitement.

With newfound knowledge and anticipation, Luke unrolled the class-grant scroll. The magical parchment glowed with a faint shimmer, responding to his touch. As he activated the scroll, a surge of energy coursed through him, assessing his potential.

However, to their surprise, when the scroll activated, it displayed a message:

"You already possess a class: Shadow-mancer (<>."

Luke's eyes widened with astonishment. He didn't think that the scroll would reveal the information that he was hiding , now 'what would Roland and Stephanie think about this' he thought.

Roland exchanged a puzzled glance with Stephanie. "This is unusual," Roland said, scratching his head. "its not unheard of but some people are born with classes or somehow gain one because of certain actions."

Luke pondered the situation, his thoughts racing. He understood he could lie his way out of this one. "ah-yes? Maybe that's it? Haha, how lucky of me. I guess [shadow-mancer] is my class"

Roland and Stephanie exchanged surprised glances, but Roland spoke up first. "Luke, are you sure about this? [Shadow-mancer] is considered one of the weakest classes, and it's often looked down upon due to its similarities with dark magic, we could still change it to the swordsman-class if you want."

Luke nodded, his gaze unwavering. "nah- its fine, I understand the challenges and the prejudice associated with the class, but I feel like I should roll with what fate has decided for me, you know?."

Luke was completely confident in his decision because he was sure that there is no way his class was weak, he had the shadow system, a weak class wouldn't have that right?

Stephanie smiled, impressed by Luke's determination. "Very well, Luke. The guild will support you in your chosen path. Let us change your job from [farmer] to [adventurer] to complement your [Shadow-mancer] class. Together, they can unleash a unique blend of abilities."

With a few administrative adjustments, Luke's job was officially changed to [adventurer], aligning it with his Shadow-mancer class.

Leaving the private room, Luke head the ethereal voice of the shadow system ring in his head and the bluish holographic screen appear before his face.
