Chapter 29 - Before the dungeon

Kylo Stromcrest Viewpoint:

"Make sure everything is in order with your belongings," the sub-commander ordered us.

Currently, we were at the field where we always trained, waiting for the two new members of Elara's "social friends".

(Damn, it was cold)

Besides, we were up at 4 am, do you know how cold it is at this hour? I wouldn't be surprised if Imperishable kicked in and gave me cold resistance.

The reason why we were ordered to check our belongings is because of the fact that after those two join us, we will immediately leave for the dungeon where we will test our skills.

"Adelina, you have something there," casually, I heard Frederick ask about the "mysterious spot" that Adelina had on her collarbone.

"O-oh, it's nothing, it's just... I got bitten by a bug, yeah, I got bitten by a bug yesterday," Adelina nervously replied as she shot me furtive glances.

(Hey, hey, if you look at me like that, it will be very obvious).

"Is that so, don't worry, I'll buy you an artifact to keep bugs out of your room," Frederick said, not even suspicious, and even offered to buy an artifact for her.

Hearing that made me roll my eyes.

(This guy... he sounds like the main character in an NTR).

Needless to say what happens to that kind of protagonist, although come to think of it, all men who get close to Adelina, will share that same fate.

"Are you missing something, Kylo?" asked Elara, who was right next to me.

I turned to answer, but I couldn't help but admire a bit the suit he was wearing, along with his hair organized in a ponytail.

They consisted of:

A close-fitting, elegant jacket that reaches to the hip. It is made of a durable yet flexible fabric, allowing for agile movements. The jacket features a series of discreet pockets with hidden zippers for carrying essential tools.

Tight-fitting but comfortable pants with stretch fabric inserts at the knees and crotch to allow unrestricted movement, such as climbing, jumping and running. Pants are designed to fit over sturdy, yet stylish boots that provide support and protection on uneven terrain.

And tall boots of leather or similar materials, designed to be durable and provide good grip on different surfaces.

(If she were older, she would certainly look very sexy).

We all had similar attire, but with some differences for the men, such as boots that were shorter, pants that were a bit looser, and additions at the waist.

"No problem, how about you, Luna?" I replied with a smile and asked Luna, who was a few steps away.

(Although she's a person of few words...she's surprisingly nice to have around).

How should I put it? I feel comfortable with her here. Honestly, it's a strange feeling.

"Hmm," she just nodded.

As for me, I don't have to worry about anything, since I have the inventory, so I just have to keep things there and I won't have any more problems like weight and stuff.

After a while, the sub-commander arrived with two more people: a boy and a girl about our age.

"Okay, everyone, attention. This is Gareth Thornridge and Akane Swiftstrike. They will both be joining us as of today," the deputy commander said and introduced us to our new teammates.

"Hello everyone! My name is Gareth, son of Earl Thornridge. I hope we get along well," said Gareth, a boy with red hair and hazel eyes, dressed in a red wizard's robe.

(He's that kind of guy).

How would you put it...a nice, energetic guy, at least on the surface.

(Of all the possible suitors for Adelina, this guy is the most jealous).

This guy will start fights with all of Adelina's suitors if you show him too much affection, or so the wiki said.

"Hello, a pleasure. My name is Akane Swiftstrike, daughter of Baron Swiftstrike. Take care of me, please," Akane introduced herself, a young woman with long black hair and black eyes as well.

She wore a light knight's outfit, not as flashy as ours, but useful for battle.

(Not particularly interesting).

In Adelina's plot, she only appears as a secondary character, unlike the women involved with the suitors.

Theoretically, you could make her a secondary heroine if you meet her in Adam's plot, but you'd have trouble with a skilled fire mage, since Adelina doesn't exist in that plot.

(In Adam's plot, she is only briefly mentioned and then dies protecting her fiancé.)

Ironically, in Adam's plot, Akane dies, but in Adelina's, where she could potentially lose her betrothal, she does not.

(What will happen in this life?).

"Okay, everyone, come with me." After making sure we all saluted each other, the sub-commander directed us.

We all moved to follow her, except for one.

"Gareth?" asked Akane, as she watched Gareth stand paralyzed like a fool, staring at a certain someone.

(Another idiot...)

Yes, the person he was looking at was Adelina, who at that moment was standing next to Frederick, looking at him with a "respectful" smile.

(It amazes me how easily these jerks fall for it. Will it be the same with Adam?)

There is a way to find out, but that will be in the future, once these two years are over.

"What are you looking at? Move, you're in the way," Frederick said to Gareth in an irritated voice with a menacing expression.

(He seemed to have already identified him as a possible rival...).

Although he didn't identify the obvious hickey I left on Adelina's collarbone, he could notice Adelina's smile towards Gareth, even if it was respectful.

"It's nothing, it's just that...I would like to know the name of this beautiful lady," Gareth said brazenly approaching Adelina's other side.

"Greetings, your excellency Gareth Thornridge. I am Adelina Sherden, servant to Kylo Stromcrest, the boy over there," she said this, pointing cheekily at me.

(Clever, by introducing me as a common enemy, both idiots, Frederick and Gareth, won't fight as much).

Needless to say, Gareth looked at me with narrowed eyes.

I simply nodded my head.

(I don't care much for this kind of drama, although I will inevitably have to pay attention at key moments like this.)

Adelina, after all, is also a protagonist.

"Hurry up "a voice on my right side prompted me, it was Luna Lestia, who by the way has become a bit bossy since she defeated me.

(At least she talks to me...)

"Luna, Kylo, let's team up in the dungeon" Elara said enthusiastically, hooking us both with her arms.

(Here begins the tutorial, though instead of me and Luna, Elara will take Adam and Valeria).

What were the first enemies you have to face in a fantasy world?

That's right, goblins, and maybe with some surprise to add "difficulty".

(With these stats, killing a goblin shouldn't be a problem).

(Though if you get careless, you might die, or worse...).

Thinking about that, I took a quick glance at Adelina, who was chatting amicably with Gareth while Frederick grumbled.

(If I'm not mistaken, on Adelina's route, the goblins are more "active").

What do you think would be the worst ending for a heroine's plot - death? No.

Being enslaved or raped.
