Chapter 6 - A murder case triggered by a single fish

Player completes any one of these four fixed tasks, and Ember Wilde can receive "Design Points."

Furthermore, while receiving "Design Points," he will also receive an additional 10% of the player's rewarded bonus as his "Design Salary."

If the player's task reward is 10 experience points, he will receive 1 experience point as his "Design Salary."

If the player receives 10 copper coins, he will receive 1 copper coin.

If the player receives a bottle of potion as a reward, he will receive 10% of the potion's materials.

The same applies to equipment; Ember Wilde will receive 10% of the materials required to forge that equipment.

In summary, all players are essentially workers for Ember Wilde.

The more tasks players complete and the more rewards they receive, the higher Ember Wilde's earnings.

Even if Ember Wilde does not initiate any new activities or tasks, he can accumulate a large amount of resources just by having players complete the four fixed system tasks.

Ah... a heartless capitalist...

------------------------------------

"Hey! Old man of the newbie village, give me a quest! The exclamation mark on your head is lit up!"

WTF waved his hand in front of Ember Wilde.

But he found that Ember Wilde was still in a daze.

"What's going on? Is the game bugged?"

WTF couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"It's just a beta version; bugs are to be expected."

"Survivor, what do you need?"

Ten seconds later, Ember Wilde came back to his senses and looked at WTF, asking.

The reason he was in a daze was that he was mentally communicating with the system about whether he could increase his share of the percentage of design points.

Receiving just an extra 10%... it still felt a bit too little.

How can he call himself a capitalist if he doesn't exploit the players a bit more?

It should be at least 30%!

However, no matter how he tried to persuade the system, he was rejected by the mechanical electronic sound.

When he came back to his senses, he noticed WTF demanding a quest from him.

"Can I initiate quests myself?"

Ember Wilde was about to express his confusion when the system provided an answer.

The four types of fixed system quests can be triggered by players themselves.

They can also be specifically assigned by this NPC, him.

Let players build a certain respawn point.

Let players explore a designated map.

Let players collect specific illustrations.

Let players complete the first kill of a certain monster.

He can assign players to do these tasks.

Moreover, the task rewards are entirely issued by the system, so he doesn't have to worry too much.

"In that case, let the players do the respawn point construction task first."

"Let a level 1 newbie explore a map or try to get the first kill of a monster; that's just giving the undead a free dinner."

Ember Wilde touched his chin and browsed the task list in his mind.

------------------------------------

Regarding the construction of respawn points, there are many available and detailed quests.

They range from low difficulty tasks like cleaning to high difficulty tasks like defense construction.

However, for a level 1 newcomer like WTF, he can't handle any task that requires some skill.

Ember Wilde can only assign him the task of cleaning the respawn point.

"Survivor, it's not that safe here. You need to get to know this place better; I suggest not going outside for now."

Ember Wilde looked at WTF and advised in a calm tone.

"If you really want to contribute to the shelter, you can start by cleaning up the respawn point."

As soon as Ember Wilde's words fell, the quest [Tidy Up Respawn Point] immediately appeared in WTF's quest list.

After browsing the information for the [Tidy Up Respawn Point] quest, WTF nodded slightly and muttered to himself:

"Surviving in an open-world, having a 'home' is indeed very important. In other games, after accumulating some resources, the first thing I do is find a safe spot to build my home. Then, I develop around the 'home.' This newbie quest makes sense. Besides, the game saves me the trouble of scouting for a place to build my home. I'll give this game a thumbs up for that."

WTF finished browsing the information and rolled up his sleeves to start cleaning the respawn point.

He first carried all the skeletal remains out of the respawn point and then did other cleaning tasks.

Having a bunch of this stuff lying around the "home" floor was making him uneasy.

Ember Wilde watched WTF carrying the skeletal remains and had no intention of helping him.

He told himself that he was an NPC!

Which game NPC would give a quest to a player and then help them complete it?

They would all wait in place until the exclamation mark on their head turned into a question mark that indicates the quest can be turned in.

He couldn't break this rule.

After resting for a while, WTF got up again and began to carry the skeletal remains.

This time, he stopped after only five minutes.

However, it wasn't because he had exhausted too much stamina.

He felt... hungry!

WTF opened his personal status bar, which displayed:

Health: 100%

Spirit: 90%

Stamina: 25%

Satiation: 20%

Status: [Fatigued], [Hungry]

[Fatigued]: Strength -1, Agility -1

[Hungry]: Strength -1, Agility -1

------------------------------------

"No way?!"

WTF looked at his personal status and the attributes that were debuffed, feeling dumbfounded.

"Because I'm hungry and lacking stamina, they're giving me two debuffs? Isn't this game a bit too hardcore?"

WTF turned to look at Ember Wilde, who was resting nearby.

"Old man of the newbie village... I mean... Ember Wilde... bro, do you have anything to eat?"

"Eat?"

Ember Wilde pointed to the sun-dried two-headed fish.

"10 copper coins per piece."

"So expensive?!"

WTF glanced at the [Tidy Up Respawn Point] quest reward, and his brow immediately furrowed.

"The quest reward is only 10 copper coins, and you want 10 copper coins for just one fish. Are you just going to suck me dry?"

Ember Wilde shrugged, not responding.

Charging 10 copper coins for a cleaned two-headed fish was the price set by the system.

If he could set the price freely...

Then he would definitely set it higher!

WTF looked at Ember Wilde with a "Do you really expect me to buy it?" expression, and instantly felt his blood pressure rise.

No wonder there were those kinds of questions

in the survey.

Now, he really wanted to pick up the skeletal rib and smash it at Ember Wilde!

System: [Detecting the player's intention to attack, the host can activate the [System Protection] function, and the account of the player will be penalized.]

[System Protection]: A protective mechanism only for players. After activating the protection, the player cannot attack the host, but can still be damaged by non-player creatures.

Duration: 1 hour

Cooldown: 24 hours

Ember Wilde's eyes became wary as the system message popped up in his mind. He held the bone knife he had been polishing for a month and stared at WTF.
