Chapter 177 - Dueling the mini-boss

Jake's arrows were fast and furious, and the charging enemies were fierce. With the first arrow, he accurately struck the forehead of the leading person, causing him to fall instantly.

Jake's hands didn't stop as he continued to shoot arrow after arrow at the dark realm inhabitants. In a short amount of time, he managed to bring down four of them.

Jake had a mid-level archery skill, and in this situation, he achieved remarkable results. However, the ferocity of these dark realm inhabitants exceeded Jake's expectations. Apart from the first person who was killed instantly by the arrow to the forehead, the others were only injured. Despite their injuries, they didn't stop their attacks and continued charging toward Jake's group.

Knowing that arrows were effective against these dark realm inhabitants was a relief for Brenton and the others. It turned out that these dark realm inhabitants were just like them; they could die from arrows and weren't as terrifying as the legends suggested.

By this time, the dark realm inhabitants had reached Jake's group. Adrian and Ben immediately pulled the horse tripwires, causing two of the mounts to fall, along with their riders, who were flung off.

"Attack!" Jake shouted, brandishing his longsword. He struck down a mount that had charged towards him, along with its rider, in one fell swoop.

Jake's terrifying strength was on full display at this moment. With a single stroke, he killed one person. However, the other team members didn't possess the same level of power. Despite following Jake's orders to form a defensive circle, they struggled when facing the fast charging cavalry. Two of them were even knocked off their feet and lay on the ground, their fates uncertain.

"Die!" Brenton swung his greatsword fiercely, striking down one cavalryman and his mount. He had considerable strength, although not as much as Jake. Compared to the others, he was much stronger.

Dusty remained composed, not engaging the enemy head-on. Instead, he sidestepped the charging enemy, then crouched down, slicing the leg of a mount. The mount winced in pain, throwing its rider off. Dusty took advantage of the situation to pin the rider down.

However, these dark realm inhabitants were formidable opponents. In Jake's team, only Jake, Brenton, and Dusty were gaining the upper hand.

The others were struggling against the dark realm inhabitants, who were proving to be more powerful. Thankfully, Jake's strength was considerable. While he didn't possess a wide range of combat techniques and only relied on simple hacking and slashing, his strength and agility gave him a significant advantage. After killing one person with a single stroke, he immediately rushed to support his teammates.

Jake's performance caught the attention of the dark realm sub-leader. This sub-leader was even taller, exuding a powerful aura. He had been the one to knock down one of Jake's team members earlier, and upon witnessing Jake's performance, he turned his horse towards Jake and charged.

"Ha!" The sub-leader reached Jake's side, and his mount reared up on its hind legs. He leaned to the side, brandishing a long spear over two meters in length. The spear's tip shone like a spark, emitting a dazzling light as it pierced through space, directly aiming for Jake's chest.

Jake's heart skipped a beat. He quickly raised his longsword and blocked in front of him.

"Clang!" The long spear collided with the longsword, creating a shower of sparks. Jake noticed that his black stone longsword had gained a small dent. It was clear that the enemy possessed immense strength and had a highly sharp weapon.

However, Jake's strength was not in vain. Although he acted hastily, the force of the counterattack was substantial. The opponent's mount retreated several steps, and in the end, it couldn't maintain its balance and fell heavily.

The man, on the other hand, was agile. When his mount was about to fall, he had already jumped off its back. After landing on the ground, he gave his long spear a shake, creating a beautiful spear flower with a fierce killing intent, thrusting straight towards Jake.

"Well done!" Jake shouted loudly, not retreating but advancing. His black stone longsword trembled, producing a flurry of sword shadows as if dozens of longswords were simultaneously attacking, aiming at the opponent's long spear.

"Clang, clang, clang!" A series of intense clashes rang out as the two engaged in a rapid exchange. Jake's limited techniques made him appear somewhat awkward and struggling to cope, but his strength was formidable, and he could consistently push back the opponent, preventing them from gaining any advantage.

The battle was becoming tense, and Jake was growing anxious. While he could handle his own situation reasonably well, his team members were in dire straits. Several of them were already injured, and even Brenton had been slashed on the arm. Although not fatal, it significantly affected Brenton's movements.

He had to deal with his opponent quickly and go to the aid of his team members; otherwise, they would all be in danger. With this in mind, Jake's movements paused slightly, seemingly slowing down for a moment. The man he was fighting against noticed this change, and with his long spear, he aimed directly at Jake's chest, intending to deliver a lethal blow. At this distance, evading completely was impossible for Jake.

However, just as Jake was about to be hit, he subtly shifted his position. The long spear no longer aimed for his chest but instead hit a nearby spot. At the same time, Jake activated a skill provided by his Bright Mind Chainmail: Damage Absorption!

Damage Absorption: When attacked, it can reduce 50% of the damage. It can be used once per hour, and the usage cannot be stacked. This was a powerful skill that Jake had been keeping as a trump card, and now he had no choice but to use it.

"Splurt!" Although Jake was wearing the Bright Mind Chainmail and Golden Rat Cloak, the opponent's long spear still pierced his armor, injuring his body. However, thanks to the skill, the long spear couldn't completely penetrate Jake; it only went in a little.

However, even this slight penetration caused Jake intense pain, and he knew that now was not the time to faint. Suppressing the pain, Jake's black stone longsword thrust into the opponent's chest.

The man obviously hadn't expected Jake to use this life-for-a-life tactic. He had thought that a single sword thrust would kill or seriously injure Jake, but he hadn't anticipated that Jake had this ace up his sleeve.

"Splurt!" Jake's black stone longsword, under the influence of his immense strength, easily pierced through the opponent's heart.
