Chapter 91 - Arrive at the county seat

"So handsome!"

"Jake, you're amazing."

"Jake, have you practiced before? How can you be so skilled?"

After Hanson and his group left with their followers, the onlooking students couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. In fact, they were in a state of shock from the moment Jake took action, and it wasn't until he dealt with Hanson and his group that they finally recovered from their astonishment.

Originally, they thought Jake would be at a disadvantage because Hanson's group had more people, but they never expected that Jake would handle them so easily. In front of Jake, none of them could put up a fight. No wonder Jake didn't want help; it wasn't arrogance, he was truly powerful.

"Stay low-key, stay low-key," Jake smiled at the crowd and said, "Anyone else wants some barbecue? If not, let's disperse."Jake didn't want to keep being surrounded like a monkey.

"I do, I want some!"

"I want more too."

Many students who had planned to leave after eating changed their minds and ordered more barbecue, just so they could chat with Jake and ask him why he was so skilled.

The news of what happened here, as well as the video of the fight, spread back to the campus and became known to many students. They were all amazed by Jake's abilities.

"Selena, I never expected your boyfriend to be so skilled," Judy said, watching the video of Jake taking down all of Hanson's followers, astonished and envious.

"He's not my boyfriend, I already told you. I almost got embarrassed because of you guys last night," Selena said, rolling her eyes at her roommate.

"Okay, okay, I won't say it again." After the events of last night and Selena's repeated explanations, it seemed that Judy and Novia were starting to believe her. "But Jake is really handsome. Don't you consider it?"

"Forget it, I'm not interested," Selena said.

"If I go after him, he won't be interested in me," Judy said. "You're different. If you make a move, you'll definitely succeed. It'll be a sensational teacher-student romance. Isn't that romantic?"

Selena said:"If the school finds out, they'll either expel him or expel me."

"Oh, you're worried about that," Judy said. "Then why not date secretly? It can be quite thrilling."

"That's not what I mean," Selena said. "In any case, it's impossible between us."

"You never know," Judy said. "My intuition tells me that something will happen between you and Jake in the future."

"Your intuition is off," Selena said.

"Is it? Well, let's wait and see," Judy said.

While Selena and her friends were watching Jake's video in their dorm, Wendy and Xenia also saw the video. However, unlike Selena and her friends, they didn't watch it just for fun; their faces showed seriousness and contemplation.

Jake and Alan continued to be busy until around one o'clock, when they packed up their stalls and returned. Because they were well-prepared in the afternoon, there was no shortage of ingredients today.

After a simple wash-up, Jake returned to the gaming world once again. Back in the gaming world, he had to keep traveling and didn't reach a city until noon.

"Is this the county town? It does resemble the ancient cities of HX country." Jake stood in front of the city gate, looking at the "Pergamon!" ancient characters on the city wall ,with emotion.

Pergamon County Town was Jake's destination this time. The city had a five to six-meter-high city wall and was surrounded by a ten-meter-wide moat. The width of the city gate was enough for two carriages to pass side by side. At the gate, soldiers dressed in armor were on guard duty.

"I don't recognize you. What do you do?" When Jake was about to pass through the city gate and enter the city, a soldier at the gate stopped him.

"I'm from the Hermit village, and I've come here to serve in the military." Jake said.

"The Hermit village? Is there such a place?" The soldier thought for a moment but couldn't recall the name Hermit village.

"You're new here, so it's normal not to know," at this moment, another older soldier walked over and looked at Jake. "You're from the Hermit village? It's been a long time since anyone from there came to the county town."

"Yes, I'm from the Hermit village." Jake took out his letter of introduction, curious in his heart. The old village chief hadn't come to the county town for a long time, which was understandable since he was getting old. But had Mason the rogue merchant also been away for a long time? How did he restock his shop? Did he deliver goods?

The slightly older soldier looked at Jake's letter of introduction and didn't give him any trouble. He pointed him in the right direction, saying, "Report to the central square in the city. Many people from the villages and towns nearby are coming to register these days. You'll see it when you get there."

"Thank you." Jake took the letter of introduction and thanked him.

The soldier wasn't lying. When Jake arrived near the central square, he saw many people heading there, carrying baggage, and even some with weapons and armor.

Jake had learned from the old village chief that soldiers like them who were temporarily conscripted wouldn't be provided with weapons and equipment by the court. Only regular soldiers, the professional military, had access to those things. However, they did receive rations, though much less than the regular soldiers. That was the difference between the regular army and the miscellaneous soldiers like them. Therefore, those who came to serve in the military had to prepare their own weapons and equipment if they wanted to improve their strength and ensure their own survival. That was why the old village chief had prepared those things for Jake.

As soon as Jake arrived at the square, he attracted a lot of attention. It wasn't because they recognized Jake as a protagonist or felt any king-like aura from him. It was due to his attire. The weapons and equipment of other people who came to serve were relatively simple, with some swords and knives already rusty and cracked. As for armor, that was a luxury item. Out of a hundred people, not even one would possess it. While others wore simple equipment, Jake was fully armed from head to toe. Moreover, it was apparent that his equipment was not ordinary. It was no wonder that everyone noticed him.

Although he was not used to being the center of attention, Jake didn't intend to put away his equipment. If he didn't wear it now, it would be difficult to explain later where these things came from. He couldn't say that he conjured them out of thin air, could he?
