Become a teacher? Jake had never thought about it because he didn't consider himself suitable for the role. However, the benefits mentioned by the middle-aged man did make Jake intrigued. Only two classes per week, having his own office and desk, getting a single room in the teacher's apartment, and a decent salary with additional perks during holidays.
These conditions made Jake interested, and after a brief hesitation, he agreed to the invitation. It was then that Jake found out that the middle-aged man was actually an associate dean at Princeton University. He had a great passion for basketball and saw Jake's performance while passing by the basketball court in the morning. Thinking that Jake was a student at the school, he approached him to inquire. To his surprise, Jake had already graduated.
Coincidentally, Princeton University was in need of a physical education teacher. They had planned to start recruiting soon, but after seeing Jake, the associate dean changed his mind and directly invited Jake to become the physical education teacher.
"I never expected that I would become a physical education teacher," Jake thought as he returned to his place. The whole thing felt somewhat unbelievable. However, the associate dean was just an associate dean after all, and Jake wondered if he had the final say in this matter.
"Even if I can't become a teacher, I won't lose anything. I'll just treat it as if nothing happened this morning," Jake thought to himself. Temporarily putting this matter aside, Jake went out to purchase ingredients because his business was particularly good yesterday, so he planned to buy more today.
"Selena, your boyfriend was amazing just now!" The door of the dormitory was pushed open, and a figure rushed into Selena's room.
"What boyfriend? When did I have a boyfriend?" Selena looked at her roommate speechlessly. "And, Novia, didn't you go to buy breakfast? Where's breakfast?"
"Yeah, where's our breakfast?" Judy also chimed in. She was Selena's other roommate. "You lost in rock-paper-scissors just now, so you're responsible for buying breakfast. Don't try to evade it."
"I forgot," the girl who had just come in said somewhat embarrassedly. "I was too busy watching Selena's boyfriend that I forgot to buy breakfast."
"I don't have a boyfriend, who are you talking about?" Selena asked.
"It's the guy who dropped you off at school yesterday," Novia said.
An image of Jake appeared in Selena's mind as she explained, "I already told you, he's not my boyfriend. We're just friends, or rather, not even regular friends."
"Alright, Selena, stop explaining," Judy said. "Novia, tell us what happened. You already knew that he's Selena's boyfriend, and yet you stared at him and even forgot to buy breakfast?"
Selena was speechless. Why didn't her two roommates believe her explanation? At this moment, Selena regretted letting Jake drop her off at school. If he hadn't come, her roommates wouldn't have misunderstood her.
"Well, you see, when I was about to go buy breakfast, I happened to pass by the school's basketball court..." Novia explained what she had seen near the basketball court to her two roommates. Clearly, she was one of the onlookers at the time.
"Is it true or not? Selena's boyfriend is that amazing?" Judy said, somewhat skeptical.
"He's not my boyfriend!" Selena reiterated. However, her words didn't make her two roommates believe her. They even ignored her directly.
"Of course it's true! I saw it with my own eyes!" Novia exclaimed. "There were many people there! They all saw it and were extremely shocked. Their jaws dropped to the ground. Some shameless ones even tried to get his contact information afterward. Don't they know that he's Selena's boyfriend and already taken?"
"He's not my boyfriend..." Selena said weakly.
"Some people have no shame," Judy nodded. "Selena, you have to keep a close eye on your boyfriend and don't let others snatch him away."
"Yeah, you must be vigilant," Novia added. "To be honest, if I didn't know he was Selena's boyfriend, I would've tried to get his contact information."
"Novia, such thoughts are dangerous, you know you shouldn't covet your sister's boyfreind, right?"
"Of course, I know. I was just thinking about it. I didn't actually try to get his contact information," Novia said. She looked at Selena and said, "Selena, don't worry, I really didn't ask for his contact information. I swear!"
Selena didn't know what else to say. She had said it many times already that Jake wasn't her boyfriend, yet neither of her roommates believed her.
Just then, the dormitory door opened again, and Dale walked in. After entering, she glanced at Selena and casually said, "Your boyfriend plays basketball pretty well."
"He's not my boyfriend!" Selena felt desperate.
"Nevertheless, he still dresses so outdated and cheap," Dale ignored Selena's explanation and continued criticizing Jake's attire.
"Dale, how can you say that about Selena's boyfriend?" Judy said, dissatisfied.
"Yeah, no matter what, he's Selena's boyfriend. Your words are going too far," Novia added. "Besides, I think he dresses nicely."
"That's because your fashion sense is just as outdated as his!" Dale bluntly retorted.
"Dale! You're too much!" Judy exclaimed.
However, Dale paid no attention, her expression unchanged. She grabbed her keys and bag and left.
"Just a little richer. What's the big deal?" Judy continued to feel indignant. She comforted Novia, saying, "Don't stoop to her level. She's just uncultured."
"Yeah," Novia nodded, but her expression was still somewhat gloomy.
Selena and Judy both knew that Novia came from a modest background, and her clothes were not of high quality. In terms of attire and style, she couldn't compare to Dale. Being criticized like this by Dale made Novia feel sad, which was understandable.
Selena also didn't have a good impression of Dale, considering her overly harsh and vain nature. However, they were all dormitory mates, and Selena didn't want to make things too ugly with Dale before. But now it seemed that Dale didn't care about their relationship as classmates and roommates. This made Selena's impression of Dale even worse, and Dale's evaluation of Jake also annoyed Selena.
"What an annoying person!" Selena thought to herself.
