Chereads / The Dark Magus / Chapter 17 - Monopoly

Chapter 17 - Monopoly

As the monsters died, the man fell to his ass and released a tired breath as he tried to get back some of his stamina. The girl that he was protecting quickly started using healing spells on him and the other earth mage, and I knew that it would be at least ten minutes before he manages to move again so I just turned and continued hunting the monsters. If he doesn't follow me, then the should be fine here. I'll kill all the monsters as I move so they won't need to bother about being attacked by monsters behind me.

[You have killed 119 [Fire Flies]]

[Strength +3]

[Agility +3]

[Magic Power +87]

The Heart of Darkness continued to absorb magic energy as I continued to kill the monster, but this time the amount of magic power that was absorbed wasn't as much as the first time around since the three rankers came in here with me and I couldn't absorb the magic power from the monsters that they killed.

I made it to the boss room in less than thirty minutes and I didn't waste any time as I just touched the door and entered. I faced off against the [Flaming Serpent] once more and the story went about the same as the first time we met. I kicked its ass like it was my bitch.

[You have defeated the [Flaming Serpent] a second time]

[Strength +3]

[Magic Power +2]

[The Heart of Darkness wishes to [Devour] the [Flaming Serpent]]

I scoffed as I read that last prompt. Since I already killed the boss before, there won't be any drops from the boss a second time, so I just allowed the heart of darkness to do whatever it wanted.

[The Heart of Darkness has activated [Devour]]

[Magic Power +20]

The heart of darkness released a contented preen as it finally got to siphon the magic power of a dungeon boss. Now that that dungeon boss wasn't going to disappear, I could simply take a rest before taking out the mana crystal inside the dungeon boss. If the crystals of the monsters in the dungeon were precious, then the crystal of a dungeon boss was like solid gold in the tower. The crystal of a monster like this will be sold for no less than two hundred bronze coins. It was free money.

I cut out the monster's crystal and stored it inside my pouch and I sat down on the monster and sighed tiredly. I heard the door opening behind me and I looked up to see the three rankers from before. They were staring at me in surprise.

"You killed it… alone?" the man asked.

"So you came to help me?" I asked as I jumped down from the snake's head and headed out of the room.

"Wait," one of the women called from behind me, "Shouldn't there be some skill books dropped from the monster? If you kill it then you're meant to get some skill books."

"The second time doesn't mean anything," I said without turning back and the woman turned towards the man in surprise.

"Doesn't that mean...?"

"Yeah," the man cut her off and narrowed his eyes at me, "He already ran this dungeon twice. Just who is this kid? And how come I've never heard of him?"

----------+----------

I made my way back to the guild after leaving the dungeon. I wanted to clear the dungeon one more time before leaving, but I decided not to. I didn't want to stay around those three idiots and it was also getting late. I would go to another dungeon tomorrow.

When I got to the guild, I went to the receptionist and I showed him the crystals that I wanted t sell. The receptionist wasn't surprised when I brought out the smaller crystals, but once I dropped the large crystal on the table, she stumbled like I just hit her on the back of her head.

"W-What is that?"

"A mana crystal from a boss monster, I answered, "Appraise them, please."

"Uhm… can you just wait for a moment. I need to call the guild master." The receptionist didn't wait for me to say anything after she said this, she just turned and walked out into the back room and she returned after a few moments, "Please, the guild master wishes to see you."

"Appraise the rest of them," I said as I grabbed the largest crystal and walked into the back room.

Once I got into the guild masters office, I saw that she was talking to someone else. It was a man wearing red full-body armor. He had a scowl on his face as he faced the guild master. This man was Trent, the strongest E ranker down on the first floor. At this time he was still an E ranker, but if I remember correctly, then he becomes a D ranker before even a year and moves to higher floors.

"Why can't you give me the dungeon for a whole day?" he said in annoyance, "I've proved that I'm more than capable of taking care of a dungeon."

"With a group," The guild master answered, "You can't do anything when you're on your own and I cannot give a monopoly to one group when another group wants to use the same dungeon. Now get out, I have someone else to deal with."

The guild master turned around to point at me and Trent glared at me before standing from the couch and storming out of the room. I didn't know exactly what they were talking about, but I had a vague guess.

"You're going to give my receptionist a heart attack one of these days" the guild master, Yuvan, said as she stood up and walked towards the wine bar, "She ran in here like there was a fire in the guild house."

I chuckled at what she said and went to take a seat. The guild master was wearing a simple tank top and her long black trouser without the coat and I allowed my eyes to roam over her body. She was really beautiful.

"I think we both need this for what we're about to talk about," Yuvan said as she dropped a glass in front of me and took a seat, "So, where should we start?"

I first tasted the drink that she prepared for me and I was surprised when I tasted alcohol. I grinned, "I thought I was too young."

"You're the one that told me not to talk about age, aren't you?" Yuvan finished her drink in a gulp and looked at me seriously, "You cleared the dungeon more than once today?"

"Yes. And?"

Yuvan clicked her tongue in disappointment, "I thought you would deny it a bit more. How disappointing," she grinned, "I was starting to enjoy our little banters."

I shook my head at her and dropped the crystal on the table, "This is the mana crystal from the dungeon boss [Flaming Serpent]"

Yuvan took it carefully and she looked at it closely, "This is very rare on the first floor, you know. You shouldn't treat it like it's some sort of regular occurrence. No one has completed a dungeon alone even once before and now you've completed one dungeon twice in the same day. Are you going to tell me how you do it?"

"No. what will be the fun in that? Just tell me how much that will be worth."

"I'll give you two hundred for it. This a standard price anywhere else."

"But we aren't anywhere else, are we?" I said, "We're on the first floor. These things are hard to come by for you and I can't sell them or the same price that I would sell them on the third or fourth floors"

Yuvan clicked her tongue in annoyance, "You are really like an everyday swindler." She said, "How much?"

"Two hundred and seventy. I'll only sell it for that much," I said.

Yuvan thought about it for a moment before she finally relented and nodded, "Fine. When are you going back into the dungeon again? Tomorrow?"

"Yeah," I said with a raised brow, "What's wrong?"

"There's nothing wrong brat, I was just curious," Yuvan said, "if you're going in again, then tell the receptionist to give you a monopoly. I'm sure you would like that."

"Isn't that want Trent was just asking for now? Why are you giving it to me?"

"Oh, so you know who he is," Yuvan relaxed and continued drinking, "He's a real piece of work. He's strong for an E ranker, but that's just about it. There is nothing special about him and he thinks the world revolves around his balls."
