Chapter 10 - DYLAN:

RUTH DANAN Her name echoed in my ears for a solid minute after it escaped from his mouth. I was hearing about her after six years; it's not like I was ever curious, but I never thought she would ever ride a bike, let alone defeat miles in a race. quite impressive for her standard. I will tell her that I had always known Ruth as the quiet, bookish type, so the news of her athletic prowess was truly surprising. It made me wonder what other surprises she had up her sleeve after all these years.

Ruth used to think of herself as a rebel, trying to end the bullying in the school and to bring a change around our school, which resulted in me getting pissed off at her. Everything she did pissed me off, and I developed a hatred towards her. However..

Reflecting on my past behavior towards Ruth, I realize the harm I caused and the pain I may have inflicted. Our interactions were never positive, and I deeply regret my part in contributing to her discomfort.

I'll admit, during that time, I was caught up in a phase of immaturity and recklessness. My actions were driven by a misguided desire to fit in and project a certain image. However, that doesn't excuse the harm I caused to Ruth.

It pains me to acknowledge that I may have traumatised her or made her feel humiliated. No one deserves to feel that way, especially not because of my actions. I understand now that my behaviour was unacceptable and had lasting consequences.

As for the remark about Ruth being a "little mouse in a school of wolves" and insinuating that she was somehow deserving of mistreatment, I now see the harm in such thinking. No one should ever be preyed upon or belittled. Each person deserves respect and kindness, regardless of their perceived status or position.

Ruth had every right to assert herself and make changes, and I deeply regret any hostility or resentment I harboured towards her for doing so. It's clear now that my actions were fueled by insecurity and a lack of understanding

While I was busy with these thoughts, Miles coughed and smirked while saying, Lost in thoughts, Your Highness." I raised an eyebrow tucked my hands in the pockets of my jeans and told him, Not really; how did you get her whereabouts, and how is she willing to talk to you after you know?'' Miles chuckled and replied, "Let's just say I have my ways. And as for her willingness to talk, let's just say she's more forgiving than you think."

'' I doubt that she forgave you because you said sorry, so what's the catch in that?'' I asked, being doubtful.

'' Nah man, nothing serious, I helped her get clothes that day so she doesn't hold a grudge, and we met a few months ago at a bar and we caught up on stuff. She appreciated the gesture, and it helped mend the situation. It seems like she's moved on from whatever happened between you two that day. but why are you curious trying to talk to her again hm?

"Nah man not really I was just asking well the track looks the same as before,'' I said trying to change the topic

it's not that I want to know more Ruth it's just a man can be curious about his past acquaintances that's all.

'' yeah I took pretty good care of it didn't I'' he said leaning back on his bike

'' yeah, you did, well any news on Chase?'' I asked Miles looking at the benches on which some girls were cheering for some guys in their teenage years.

'' Well yeah, actually Chase is in Canada. You remember, he inherited a company from his uncle, so he is there,'' he told me while he scrolled up on his phone to show me a picture of his company on his phone. The photo showed a large office building with the company logo prominently displayed. It was clear that Chase had taken on significant responsibility for managing the business.

"Our group represented the change from high school cliques to the realities of maturity. After we graduated, our careers diverged. Chase moved to Canada, leaving Broody, Miles, and myself in the United States, although in different cities. Our lives got dominated by many responsibilities, leaving little time for reunions. During this maelstrom, we came to the sobering realization that the petty drama and divides of high school had no relevance in the larger context of the actual world.

Broody and Chase did hang around a lot, going to bars and parties, but I was always busy meeting and keeping up the business empire. My father left me.

Miles pursued his love for music and continued to sing and do concerts here and there and also took care of this track that he inherited. To sum up, he was doing well. Broody became an investor as well as a model. I won't lie, he had good looks that landed him there for a reason. Overall, he found success in both industries and was thriving. His unique combination of talents set him apart from others in the field.

miles and I walked around the track talking about things he changed around the track, he asked me about how my business was going, he hesitated at first then asked me about what was up with the mafia business

I told him it was all right, but how could I tell him how much blood was on my hands and how many screams I had heard in the past week? These screams keep me up all night and haunt me in my dreams. I can maintain a stern facial expression, but how long can this heart bear to remain this cold and bitter? I fear that the weight of these memories will eventually crush me, leaving me hollow and broken. The facade of strength I present to the world is slowly crumbling, revealing the vulnerability and pain that lie beneath.

I was walking along with him when someone patted my shoulder and squeezed it. I turned around and saw a man with a buzzcut but with a similar smirk on his face.

I was processing who it was when Miles yelled, "Broody!" Aye, what are you doing here? A small smile curled up my lips, and I extended my hand for a handshake, which he took and shook.

'' I followed your Snapchat location, and I came here, and to my surprise, this guy is here as well,'' he said to Miles. Miles chuckled and shook his head, clearly amused by Broody's unexpected appearance. "Well, it looks like we've got ourselves a party now," he said with a grin. The three of us continued walking together, catching up, and enjoying the unexpected reunion.

miles told us to follow him into a garage and there were two motorbikes to be more specific two bikes that held my heart 5 years back that

I couldn't help but groan and chuckle out of excitement,'' Oh fuck no way you kept these safe!''

'' fuck! Oh Olivia I missed you honey" Broody kissed the headlight of his bike that he named Olivia

We both chuckled at his reaction, and I proceeded to sit on it. Miles threw the keys at me, which I caught and started my bike. It was as good as new; the scent of petrol has never felt better than it does today. Our helmets were on a tiny bench, and I retrieved mine.

Miles hopped on his bike and glanced across to us, saying, "How about a race where the one who loses owns the other one and drinks?" We all chuckled and accepted the challenge, preparing to bike as quickly as we could down the curving road ahead. The thrill of competitiveness filled the air as we waited for the starting signal.

and we took off, pedalling furiously and feeling the wind rush past us. The sound of our laughter mixed with the sound of the people cheering for us on the benches.

Broody and I timed our bikes, and Miles, although having the lead, had lost. He groaned and stared at us dramatically before saying, "Fine drinks on me, boys." just then my phone rang and it was a call from my assistant James i picked it up and hummed in response and told him ill be there in half an hour.

'' you two go enjoy yourselves I'll see you around '' I said getting off my bike.

'' work duties? I can understand all right until next time see you around then Dylan'' he said as I walked off the track and went outside to get inside my car.

"I received a text from James saying, 'There are about 50 applicants who will be giving interviews to be your secretary, and you need to finalize between them in two days.'

Great.
