Amelie
I laid in Liam's arms while he dozed off. This was the first time we were sharing a bed in five years, and it was honestly an odd feeling. As I stared at him my mind wandered off in thoughts, thoughts of our future.
He wanted a wife, and a child, two things that I was scared of giving him. Liam wasn't the best man to raise a family with, and I didn't want to end up separating with him especially when we might have had a baby. I've read numerous articles on the mental effects divorce could have on a child, and I honestly didn't want that for any child of mine.
He'd made it clear that this relationship wasn't based on feelings, it was all about the company and getting what he believed should be his. I really couldn't blame him for trying to keep his emotions away from this
Moreover, I wasn't even sure I was ready to become a mother just yet. It was too much of a responsibility, and required serious commitment. Me being unable to save my last marriage meant I wasn't ready to start a family just yet, especially not with somebody who had a different view of life from me.
I wondered what had happened with him and Anna, why did they get separated. Was it the same reason as ours, or was there something Liam was keeping from me. He wouldn't talk even if I asked. He had made it clear that he didn't want me to know him better. He only tells me what he considers necessary and nothing more.
I got down from the bed and slowly walked to the balcony. The night was cold, and the night sky was devoid of the moon and stars. There was a cool breeze, and with it came the subtle sound of rain falling to ground, providing a soothing and peaceful environment. I could stay here all night. That dream was cut short when I felt warmth behind me. Liam was up, and his huge figure towered over me from behind.
"You're going to catch a cold." He cautioned as he threw a heavy blanket over my shoulders. Although I wanted a different source of warmth, this would suffice. I wrapped the blanket over my naked body and snuggled up in it.
"I couldn't sleep." He said as though I had asked for a reason.
"Why? Is something bothering your mind?"
"I can't really say, it's been so long since I've been this comfortable it felt weird."
"Stop trying to lead me on." I cautioned. I know what he was doing and I wasn't going to fall for it. I carefully shifted away from his reach and turned to meet his gaze on me.
"Come back to bed, a storm is brewing." His eyes traveled away from me, he took a step towards the door but stopped when I wasn't following. "Can't you sleep? Is it because of my presence?"
My eyes dulled and I turned away from his gaze. It was definitely because of him, but not in the way he was thinking.
"I'll leave the room if that's what you want." He offered and I didn't stop him. It would be probably better if he left.
"It's fine, shut the door on your way out." I answered. Liam's lips parted in a protesting manner but no words came out. He probably wanted to say something against my request, but after realizing he made the suggestion first, kept quiet. He let out a weary sigh before walking out of the room in an angry manner.
I returned to the room after Liam had left and crawled into the bed. My eyes were already heavy with sleep, but my brain wouldn't let me slip into unconsciousness. It took another hour of heavy thinking before I finally drifted off.

I woke to the rays of the sun climbing through my window. I had expected a cloudy morning, but nature worked differently from my expectations. After cleaning myself up, I went straight to the kitchen to prepare my own breakfast. It was only two of us in this big mansion, and Liam always left for work before I was done preparing breakfast. So, I stuck to making food only for myself.
However, today was different, he hadn't gone to work. I realized it was a Sunday morning, but that never stopped Liam from leaving the house, what could be the problem now.
"You're not leaving for work?" I asked as I passed by him and entered the kitchen.
"I can't." He answered coldly. His face was ridden with suppressed rage, and his eyes seemed void of human emotions. I wanted to believe he was still angry about last night, but Liam would never get this angry over something so trivial. "I want you to hide." He said and I paused.
"Hide? Why?" I asked in genuine shock. Now I was scared, could we be in danger? What was going on? "What's wrong Liam?"
"The police called, apparently I'm being suspected of stealing and falsifying private documents before its public release." Liam explained. "Casmir is probably coming with them, and I don't want him to see you. You understand don't you?"
"Wouldn't it be better if I left the house? What if they decide to search the place?"
"It's probably too late now. They'll be here any minute and if they see you leaving it might worsen the situation. I don't want to drag you into my family mess, not until we're lawfully wedded."
His last sentence sent chills down my body and I immediately abandoned the work in the kitchen and raced upstairs. I had no idea things were this heated between him and his brother, and it was becoming rather scary.
I reached my room and immediately locked the door. From the window I watched as a familiar car pulled up to the front yard, and from it alighted Anna. Then moments later, the blaring sound of siren filled the atmosphere, the police were here.
