The room was silent after Sterling forced the others to leave the infirmary. Faye lay on the cot, her eyes closed, with a cool, wet towel over them. Her stomach was still hurting, but the nausea and headache were slowly subsiding.
Sterling sat on the cot's edge, tending to his ill wife. She looked far too pale, and the mashed-up expression on her face showed she was still in a lot of pain.
He placed his hand on her forehead, and she still felt feverish to him.
He was concerned about leaving here with Faye in this condition. Sterling had pondered on calling on his inner dragon, but resisted. He did not trust Arvon and worried he would do something like last time, when they visited the rim.
Faye sat up and saw the vacant expression on Sterling's face. She could see he was deep in his thoughts. She was curious if something had happened and gone wrong in the guild meeting. Faye stretched her tiny hand over his and placed it on Sterling's.
