Sir Proud and Faye hurriedly forced their way back towards the keep and exited through a separate set of doors located on the side of the courtyard. Wasting no time, the young paladin seized the reins of a nearby horse and climbed onto its back. He then effortlessly pulled Faye up with him and dug his spurs into the horse's side.
In a flash, they were darting through the crowd that had congregated around the scaffold. As soon as the onlookers spotted the enormous Andalusian war horse charging forward, they hastened out of the way to let the beast and its rider pass.
As the two of them approached the platform, Faye was stunned to see the Duke once again holding the sword to the woman threateningly, shouting for the other prisoners to answer his question, while everyone around them watched in horror. She saw his jaw tick in aggravation. The Duchess could sense he was close to snapping.
