Mielle felt the cold stone walls pressing in around them. It was as if they were closing off any way of escaping the horror below on the scaffolds. She watched Lena's triumphant expression as she peered over her shoulder at Mielle and smirked sinisterly. She could see a steely resolve glinting in Lena's eyes while the entourage headed towards the very place where danger lurked.
Mielle closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to study her nerves and do as Faye had said and remain passive. When she opened her eyes again, Mielle observed Faye's gaze scan over the crowd below with her startled, wide cerulean eyes. She watched as all joy and innocence vanished from them, replaced by fear and desolation. The duchess' charming smile was erased by the bedlam she looked upon.
There was a loud blare of the carnxy horn. It was a dark and ominous sound.
