Sterling sensed the tension in Faye's hands - the muscles were still strained; it was a symptom of the stress fever that was consuming her.
He wished he could ease her suffering with a mere snap of his fingers. However, he knew from the discussions with the twins and the doctor's explanation, that it would not be that easy.
Her healing would take time. It would have to happen on her terms. He would need to show Faye patience, and, most importantly, the unconditional love from his heart.
He leaned over and tenderly kissed her forehead. Sterling murmured, "What shall I do with you? How can I rid your tormented soul of this deep-seated agony?"
He lay next to Faye for an hour more; the rain tapping a constant melody on the windowpane. It seemed like it would never stop. He couldn't stay in bed any longer, waiting for her awakening. He had already postponed as long as he could.
