Kelyk took his turn to speak, leaning forward and placing his elbows on his knees. He then clasped his hands together and positioned them under his chin before raising his head to meet Sterling's gaze.
"Do you have any knowledge of her past? Has she shared any information with you about her family and their origins?"
The question caused the Duke's brow to furrow and a frown to appear on his face. Kelyk smirked, satisfied that he had struck a nerve.
The Duke scoffed in contempt at the mage. "Pfft!—Why do you insist on asking questions when you already know the answer?"
Sterling's voice was laced with irritation. The room instantly went silent except for the sound of the rain outside tapping against the study window, adding to the already gloomy atmosphere. His heart flared with anger, like a storm brewing inside of him. "Do you enjoy pouring salt on old wounds and raising my ire?"
