The dawn broke, the morning sunlight washing through the streets of my new town. Of my new empire. I watched as those with or without time. Those that paced around and those that just happened to be here.
It was without warning, without any time for them to even process it. For those that were in the center of development, they were safe, free from the influence of the gangs. The violent offenders that killed and pillaged for their own pleasure.
But for those at the frontier, taking for themselves and their family, it was those that really were shocked.
They had seen the horror of those gangs, nothing more than glorified bandits. But I had seen more than one of them, paying tribute, allowing themselves to be used in many ways. All for the purpose of safety, that a mere number had taken from them.
And for those, I stood solemnly. Saying naught but a word. My hand the chopping block of the gang's heads.
