Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Sense of Duty

As soon as the word "Fight" left Mr. Lopez's lips, Dwight sprang into action with a ferocity that was both impressive and alarming. He launched himself at Reese with all the force and speed he could muster, his fists flying in a flurry of punches aimed at Reese's head and torso.

From the sidelines, Mr. Ramirez and Mr. Lopez watched with keen interest, their eyes glued to the intense battle unfolding before them. "Impressive," Mr. Ramirez remarked, his tone filled with admiration as he observed Dwight's relentless assault. "He's certainly not holding back."

Mr. Lopez nodded in agreement, his gaze unwavering as he studied Dwight's movements with a critical eye. "Indeed," he replied, his voice tinged with anticipation. "But let's see how Reese responds."

Despite Dwight's relentless barrage of attacks, Reese remained calm and composed, his movements fluid and calculated as he effortlessly dodged each blow with a grace that belied his years. With his keen spiritual sense guiding him, Reese was able to anticipate Dwight's movements before they even occurred, sidestepping each punch and kick with ease.

As Dwight grew increasingly frustrated, his attacks became more desperate, his punches coming faster and harder in an attempt to break through Reese's defenses. But no matter how hard he tried, Dwight couldn't seem to land a single blow on his elusive opponent.

Mr. Ramirez watched the spar with keen interest, his eyes narrowing in concentration as he observed Reese's agile maneuvers. "Impressive," he murmured to Mr. Lopez, his voice tinged with admiration. "Reese's reflexes are extraordinary. It's as if he can anticipate Dwight's every move."

Mr. Lopez nodded in agreement, his expression thoughtful as he assessed Reese's abilities. "Indeed," he agreed, his voice tinged with respect. "Reese's agility and precision are truly something to behold."

As the spar reached its climax, Dwight let out a roar of frustration, "Ahh! Bastard!" his movements becoming more erratic as he threw caution to the wind and launched himself at Reese with one final, desperate attack.

Seeing Dwight's fist hurtle towards him, Reese's eyes narrowed. 'Time to end this,' Reese thought decisively. Then his palm shot out with lightning speed. Meeting Marcus's punch with a resounding crack. The force of the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the air, reverberating around the gym.

With a stunned gasp, Dwight was propelled backwards, his body tumbling out of the ring in a dizzying whirl. As he lay sprawled on the floor, unconscious and defeated, the room fell silent, the gravity of Reese's victory hanging in the air.

Mr. Ramirez's eyes widened in astonishment, a mixture of awe and respect shining in his gaze. "Incredible," he breathed, his voice filled with admiration. "Reese's skill and power are beyond anything I could have imagined."

Mr. Lopez nodded in agreement, his gaze lingering on Reese with newfound respect. "Indeed," he replied, his voice tinged with admiration. "Reese Urban may just be the answer to all our prayers."

After the intense spar between Reese and Dwight, the gym was filled with an air of tension and concern as Mr. Lopez swiftly took charge of the situation. He instructed the maids and guards to assist Dwight and escort him to the clinic for a thorough check-up, ensuring his well-being after the strenuous bout.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ramirez led Reese through the sprawling corridors of his lavish home, the soft glow of ornate chandeliers casting intricate shadows along the marble floors. Reese followed in silence, his mind racing with anticipation as they approached the imposing doors of Mr. Ramirez's study.

As they entered the study, Reese couldn't help but marvel at the opulence that surrounded him. The room was adorned with rich mahogany furnishings and intricate tapestries, a testament to the Ramirez family's wealth and influence.

Mr. Ramirez motioned for Reese to take a seat opposite him, his expression a mix of seriousness and determination.

"Reese," Mr. Ramirez began, his voice commanding yet tinged with urgency. "I appreciate your demonstration of skill today. It's imperative that I ensure the safety of my family. You see, I am running for governor in the upcoming election. I haven't announced my candidacy yet, but when I do this weekend, I'm afraid that my opponents would use underhanded means to harm my family."

Reese's brow furrowed in concern as he absorbed Mr. Ramirez's revelation. Suddenly, it all clicked into place—the familiarity he felt towards Mr. Ramirez and the posters he had seen plastered throughout the streets of Cebu City.

"I remember now," Reese interjected, a flash of recognition crossing his features. "I've seen your posters around town."

Mr. Ramirez nodded solemnly, his gaze unwavering as he met Reese's eyes.

"With the election drawing near," Mr. Ramirez continued, "I need someone I can trust to protect my son, Jasper. Someone like you, Reese."

Reese's chest swelled with a sense of duty as he absorbed the weight of Mr. Ramirez's words. He knew the importance of the task that lay before him—to safeguard Jasper amidst the turbulent political landscape.

"Jasper is my primary concern," Mr. Ramirez reiterated, his voice carrying a weight of worry that Reese couldn't ignore. "He's a spirited young man, but his penchant for nightlife leaves him vulnerable to potential threats."

Reese nodded in understanding, recognizing the gravity of the situation. He knew that protecting Jasper would require more than just physical prowess—it would demand vigilance and strategic planning.

"My announcement would see him as a target," Mr. Ramirez continued, his expression grave. "They might attempt to harm him or even kidnap him to undermine my campaign."

"I understand, Mr. Ramirez," Reese replied, his voice steady despite the turmoil churning within him. "I'll do everything in my power to ensure Jasper's safety."

Mr. Ramirez nodded with a hint of gratitude in his eyes as he regarded Reese.

"And remember, Reese," Mr. Ramirez continued, his voice lowering to a confidential tone, "you mustn't disclose your role to Jasper. It's imperative that you gain his trust naturally, without arousing suspicion."

"Excuse me, Mr. Ramirez," Reese began tentatively. "I'm not sure I understand. You want me to protect Jasper without him knowing?"

Mr. Ramirez nodded gravely, his expression serious yet resolute. "Exactly, Reese. Jasper is... well, he's a bit rebellious, you see. If he knows you're assigned to protect him, he might resist or act out. We need to ensure his safety without arousing his suspicion."

Reese mulled over Mr. Ramirez's words, the gravity of the situation sinking in. "I see," he replied slowly, nodding in understanding. "So, I'm to blend in and keep a watchful eye on him without him realizing it."

"Precisely," Mr. Ramirez affirmed, a hint of relief evident in his voice. "I trust you understand the importance of this task. Reese. Jasper's safety is paramount, and I have every confidence that you're up to the challenge."

Reese nodded, his determination firming with each passing moment. "I won't let you down, Mr. Ramirez. Consider it done."

Reese's mind raced with potential strategies. He considered ways to organically integrate himself into Jasper's social circle, perhaps by posing as a fellow student or a casual acquaintance. He knew he would need to be observant, seizing opportunities to establish rapport with Jasper without raising suspicion.

"And as for your compensation," Mr. Ramirez added, a hint of generosity in his voice, "I've arranged for a monthly salary of 100,000 pesos."

Reese's eyes widened in astonishment as Mr. Ramirez disclosed the staggering salary. His mind struggled to process the figure, unable to comprehend the magnitude of such an offer.

"A hundred thousand pesos... per month?" Reese repeated incredulously, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Mr. Ramirez nodded solemnly, his gaze unwavering. "Yes, Reese. I understand it's a considerable sum, but your role is of utmost importance to me. I want to ensure you're well compensated for your dedication and service."

Reese's jaw slackened in astonishment, the weight of Mr. Ramirez's generosity settling heavily upon him. "I... I don't know what to say," he stammered, his mind reeling with disbelief.

Mr. Ramirez offered a reassuring smile, his demeanor calm yet resolute. "No need to say anything, Reese. Your commitment and loyalty are what matter most. Consider it a token of appreciation for the vital role you'll play in protecting Jasper. The password is 777777, by the way."

With a sense of gratitude washing over him, Reese accepted the ATM card from Mr. Ramirez, his fingers trembling slightly as he held it in his hands. "Thank you, Mr. Ramirez," he murmured sincerely, his voice filled with gratitude.

Mr. Ramirez nodded, his expression warm and understanding. "You're welcome, Reese. Now, remember, your safety is just as important. Don't hesitate to use the resources at your disposal if you need them."

As Mr. Ramirez finished explaining the details to Reese, he leaned forward slightly, his expression earnest. "Reese, if you ever find yourself in need of anything—whether it's weapons, armor, or even just advice—don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Lopez. He'll make sure you have everything you need to fulfill your duties."

Reese nodded in understanding, grateful for the offer of support. "Thank you, Mr. Ramirez. I'll keep that in mind," he replied, his voice filled with determination.

Mr. Ramirez offered Reese a small smile before reaching for a framed photograph and files about his son on his desk. "And here's a picture of Jasper and his files," he said, handing it to Reese.

Reese accepted the photograph and the files with a nod of appreciation, looking at them intently. "Got it. Thank you, Mr. Ramirez," he said, folding and tucking the photo and the files into his pocket for safekeeping.

Just then, Mr. Ramirez's phone rang, and he glanced at the screen before turning back to Reese. "Ah, it seems Mr. Lopez is ready to escort you back home. We're done here for now," he said, rising from his seat.

Reese stood up as well, offering a respectful nod. "Thank you again, Mr. Ramirez. I'll do my best to fulfill my duties," he said sincerely.

With a reassuring smile, Mr. Ramirez gestured for Reese to follow him. "I have no doubt you will, Reese. Welcome to the team," he said warmly as they made their way out of the study.
