Lora - Rumors say that this is the building.
Raven - Haunted? The surroundings do make it look scary, the building seems to be neat and classy too. You know what I mean.
Blabbering and chewing gums sloppily, Raven shot a glance at Lora. Lora replied;
Lora - That is why we're here. The rumors could be planned. People like spices, and It's our job to find out if the place is haunted or the rumors are fake.
Tina - I'll get the cameras, UV lights and the rest of the things. Hey, Ed! Come and help me out.
Tina excitedly called out to Edward to get the gadgets. "Coming", responding calmly, Edward went to help her out, exhausted and tired already. Everyone, except Tina, firmly believed that rumors were fake. However, the members of the team 'Haunted Round 5' got ready to go in, as usual.
This wasn't their first investigation; they searched for ghosts and spirits several times, and ended up attesting the areas undaunted. Though it never rewarded them specifically, they gained a unique recognition through their missions as social activists; yet it wasn't their goal. They solved mysteries in search of miracles & thrills, just to get disappointed more and more. An unsuccessful success.
Marlin was the team leader, as he was good at sensing spiritual existence, at least he used to sense them since childhood. But he never succeeded in catching one on camera. He entered the gate of the building first; then the rest of the members followed him, even though there was nothing to get scared of. Still, everything was exhilarating for Tina. Poor her, never gave up her hopes on catching one. The whole team was together only and only for her naïve enthusiasm.
We'll split up from here. As the complaints about the fifth floor are absurdly suspicious, I'll approach the place first. Lora, you'll come with me. You guys check out the fourth and sixth floor; let me know if any paranormal activity is caught on view. Let's hope that we actually get something. Or it's just another rescue mission.
Lora spaced out in her own thoughts. Pinching her arm, Marlin teased her.
- Frightened already? What came over you today?
- No, I...I think I've been here before, or maybe not...
- You're so naïve. You already believe those rumors.
- No, I don't!
Teasing her, he climbed up the stairs; Lora followed him.
-I don't think this place is haunted at all. Though the son of Mr. Charles Wiener committed suicide 2 years ago, still, I think it's neat.
- So you were thinking about the suicide case. That case surely creeps out like hell.
- It's not exactly the case, Marlin; as Mr. Charles Wiener's nephew was enticed by this region. What do you think? How much could it be?
- If I had to pin a price, then it'd be 100 to 300 million, or maybe more.
- Wow! Then I'm sure and confident that the rumors were faked. They might have been paid for buzzing such complaints about spiritual senses and paranormal activities.
- I wish not, even though I feel nothing.
- I'm damn sure!
- I don't know; nothing makes sense about why Melisa would lie about it.
- She must have mistaken the strong breeze to be the curse of a so-called trapped soul.
- Who knows!
The fifth floor had five specific flats. They looked at each other.
- Let's split. It'll make it fast, Marlin.
- But safety first, Lora.
Hearing this she smiled fiendishly and teased back;
- Now you're scared.
- I'm not scared! You're just over-confident! 'Cause I don't think Melisa was lying.
Then Marlin took a pause. Her confidence level enraged Marlin;
- Or maybe we should split up. You go for the Flat-B, I'll go for A.
- Done.
Lora entered the flat-B without any hesitation, at least she tried to make it look that way. She knew what happened there, which she tried her best to keep a secret. She could assume what and why happened farther, but the next occurrence was completely out of her prediction. Moving the lightning torch, she recorded every inch of the rooms according to their procedures. "This is just a piece of cake", saying it aloud to ease herself she completed scanning flat-B. The nervousness was not because of the possibility of any spiritual existence, but it was from the assumption she had that was completely hypothetical but realistic.
Marlin was still scanning flat-A. Certainly, he felt someone or something gusting on his back, near to his neck. "I'm heading for flat-C". Marlin bounced, quivering, screaming at Lora. Oh, it was Lora. "Oh My Good Heavens! Should I hang a bell on your neck?!" Lora couldn't stop herself rolling over laughter. "You should've seen yourself in the mirror", laughing at his reaction, she left for flat-C.
Marlin continued scanning, trusting on Melisa's statement about the fifth floor being haunted. She's a doctor; why would she lie?
After scanning almost all the rooms inch by inch, he headed for the corner room, desert after main course. He went into the room; the old feelings hit him right back, the cold room of the flat. It hit him with tingling feelings; the moment for which he was waiting for long, at last, hit him with Paresthesia. He almost froze when he began to hear whispers from the wall directly connected with the flat next to it. To hear the whispers clearly, he had to put his ears on the wall. Mustering up his courage, he took the microphone and placed it against the wall. "It can do no harm to me, I went through tougher than this", telling it to himself, he placed his ears against the wall and heard whispering voices, talking. No, perhaps, it was calling, the tone sounded like it was calling in a low voice, trying to wake someone up. "Loren?" It was trying to wake up Lora to her senses. The voices only spoke her name. Possibly, it was one particular voice that only spoke to Lora, addressing her with her real name.
Though everyone called her 'Lora', her real name was Loren Becker. Her relatives and family members usually called her Loren. But it had no probability of their presence there. Her closest cousins hadn't enough guts to accompany her in such areas, they were cowards. In fact, they even called her 'Lora' by name.
It's not the right time to jump on any conclusions so fast. It could be the others from their team. Have the other members already finished scanning their floors? Why hadn't they confirmed it yet?
- Hello, does anyone copy? Tina? Ed? Confirm your position, Raven! I want a report. Over.
- This is Ed and I copy. I and Tina are still on the fourth floor, scanning incomplete. Over.
- Cut out the walkie talkie drama, Marlin. I'm heading to you now.
They haven't come near them yet, and the whispers were clearly of an unknown male. Marlin froze.
- He didn't take any other risks.
- Please check on Lora on the fifth floor, flat-C; she ain't responding.
All three of them rustled to the flat as soon as they heard it. After rushing into the room, they found her lying on the floor, fainted.
"I never wanted to discover spiritual existence in a perilous way", Tina cried to herself. Raven looked around searching for Marlin, "Did he faint too?" They went into the flat next to it where Marlin was standing frozen against the wall in the corner room. Raven patted him on his shoulder and he gazed at her, "We're never doing this again."
