Silence hung in the air between them for more than a fleeting moment before Adelia suddenly heard the vivid sound of Azel's laughter from behind her. Her hands began to tremble, and it was like her whole body flushed a deep shade of red.
"It seems the saying 'third time's a charm' doesn't quite apply to you, Milady," Azel remarked with a chuckle. "Pride does indeed come before a fall, doesn't it?"
Adelia tightened her grip on the damaged longbow in her hand, possibly causing more harm than good as she turned to glare at him. "I wasn't being prideful."
"But you were, Milady," Azel insisted. "That expression you gave me was unmistakable."
"It... It was a triumphant look, not an arrogant one," Adelia defended. "So, I wasn't being prideful."
"Yes, you were."
"No, I wasn't."
