The attempts to open the door had all but turned into a spectacle as time passed. One by one, Souls came forward, eager or desperate to change their situations, to test their fates, and yet, what they found waiting for them on the other side was something they almost expected due to the way it kept repeatedly happening.
They would push against the door with all their might. And one by one, they would all succumb to the pressure of the door, all falling, all failing. Some collapsed from exhaustion, others from frustration, and the mood of the crowd watching nearby was collapsing from hopelessness.
The crowd that had gathered, the souls of the city seeking salvation, had started to thin out in all this time as people just lost hope and left. After seeing failure many times, it was difficult to expect the situation to change just because of one person. That was what they told themselves as they left.
