Seeing everyone stare at him in bewilderment, Midas smiled and looked below him where he could see the body of the alien. After thinking for another moment, Midas took in the body into his Ring of Holding. He also walked across the field, doing the same with the diamond-encrusted body of the Crystal Sniper.
Unfortunately, these two bodies were the only ones that were still partially intact with the Brown Guy having been turned to ashes and the acidic guy having been turned to mush.
Midas did not want to collect either of those samples for further study. But he did collect their Rings of Holding and lo and behold, without any surprise, there were no items inside.
