Amon, Roxanne, and Personia all sat together, eating lunch. If Personia learned one thing, it was to take breaks, and since Amon and Roxanne are here right now, she wanted to take even more breaks and eat with them.
This was now, however, not possible, so they sat together, eating and talking about the things they had found out by now. They were already in the middle of the talk, and everyone had already said all the information they had.
"Good, this means, in short, you too found out nothing about the unknown Personia, or have I missed something?" Amon asked while pointing with his fork at Personia. He had a piece of pork on the fork and ate it the moment he finished his sentence.
"Yes, we found out nothing; all the documents we have are useless, and this shocks me if I am honest."
Personia was confused; Leon was the one who was in charge of information gathering and keeping in his department, and as usual, he does a perfect job. The documents were categorized and always kept up with the newest information. If some information turned out to be useless or false, it was corrected or sorted out in a few minutes. But right now, when they needed the information, all the information and documents turned out to be meaningless.
"You are right; I also thought about it and wanted to contact Hiroshi to investigate this matter. Leon, however, seemed to be faster and had already sent him out."
Of all the people in Spellbander, nobody was on a similar base to Hiroshi when it came to gathering information. He needed less time and brought more information than a whole group of people would have needed.
"Then what is Aiko doing right now?" Roxanne asked if it was strange for her and her father to not be together. Since she knows Hiroshi, she noticed one thing: he never left Aiko's side. Of course, he let Aiko have her personal space, but when Aiko worked, Hiroshi would do everything he could in order to take on this work together with her.
Aiko did not hate this fact. She appreciated it and did the same; when her father went on a mission or had other work to do, she went with him. It was as if their lives were bonded by each other, and they did everything they could to keep this bond alive.
"Aiko is on a mission. I sent her, but before Hiroshi could come with her, he had already assigned his own mission." Amon said, while cutting his second piece of meat, that this time he ate belly meat.
Personia turned towards Amon and asked the question Roxanne thought about too: "And what kind of mission was that?"
"Investigating the Silverwood king; I don't want him to cause me more bullshit." Amon needed to focus all his attention on the unknown; if the king caused trouble now, he would for sure miss something important. Until this moment, the king was still weak and could get assassinated with no complications. But later on, this would become more difficult.
The dining people went silent for a second and talked about nothing; they ate and thought about what to say next. Then Amon suddenly jumped out and ran towards the pile of files.
He searched them, threw and read in high speed over documents he had already read and some he had not read up until now.
He became faster; he never read a document in whole; it looked as if he searched all the time for a specific part. When he found it, he put the documents back in the file and set up a new pile.
He did this for a total of 15 minutes until he took one of the files, pulled a document out, walked with it to the table, and laid it on a place on the table where there was enough space left to put them without staining them.
"Personia, read this part." Amon pointed at a paragraph that was only a few sentences long. Personia lifted an eye brow first and looked at Amon in confusion, then still decided to do what he told her.
"The Unknown was hired by a farmer. The Unkown had the task of killing a few bandits who killed his daughter a few weeks ago. And what is with this paragraph? There are similar ones to this one that appear in nearly every single document."
Personia did not get what Amon thought she had found out, and Roxanne too looked with a puzzled expression at Amon.
"Yes, and that is what I mean by the unkown; work is mere mercenery; for the right amount of money, he did his job. But there was one time he rejected the job; it was a job where he should protect a carriage where slaves were transported. But instead of taking on the job, he killed the client and freed the slaves."
Personia had an idea of what Amon meant and was excited about the thought. Roxanne jumped in and spoke, "Means you think he has a background as a slave, and that's why he didn't want to take the job, in which case that would be perfect?"
"Well, this is a good idea; however, it is still wrong. I never was a slave, so you won't find any information about me by gattering information about slaves from the past years."
Amon turned around, and when he looked to see where the voice was coming from, he saw a person in a coat sitting in his window.
The person was sitting in the window as if he were a guest; his left ankle was above his right knee. In his left hand, he held a dagger that was a perfect copy of the dagger Bruna took with her.
The only difference was that this dagger seemed to be only made for the left hand. The dagger had one sharp edge. He threw the dagger in the air, caught it again, and pointed the tip of his dagger in the direction of Amon's neck.
"But first of all, give me back my dagger. I don't want to kill you together with your wife and this child because of your subordinates mistake."
