Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 The Landlord's Daughter

After finishing his meal, Harry lay on the sofa and rested for a while. No one from the company called him, and if they did and he missed the call, it would be a disaster. Making money is not easy nowadays, and finding a job is even harder. If he lost this job, he would end up homeless on the streets.

"Bang, bang... Bang..."

While Harry was lost in thought, there was a knock on the door. He was slightly stunned and quickly got up to open the door.

"Including this month, you haven't paid rent for three months!"

Standing at the door was a girl wearing a plain white shirt that revealed a hint of her chest, and super short shorts, exposing her long, fair thighs. She smiled at Harry.

Harry scratched his head and nodded in embarrassment. He knew the girl in front of him. She was the landlord's daughter and was studying at university. He didn't expect her to come back.

"The day after tomorrow. I'll get my salary the day after tomorrow." Harry said apologetically. As for why he hadn't paid the rent for three months, it was because his salary wasn't high. Usually, it was only enough for his living expenses. In addition, the landlord didn't urge him, so he ended up owing three months' rent. He planned to pay it off after receiving his bonus in a few days.

"We've already waived the water and electricity bills for you, but you still cannot afford the rent. What have you been doing all day?" The girl muttered, entering Harry's room directly.

Harry smiled awkwardly and didn't dare to stop her. He stepped aside and allowed the girl to enter.

Once inside, the girl looked around, surveying her surroundings. Soon, she reached the kitchen and her face instantly displayed disbelief when she saw what was in the pot.

"Wow, is this what you eat? It's worse than the leftovers at our cafeteria," the girl pointed at the contents of the pot and looked up at Harry in astonishment.

Harry had a wry smile on his face but didn't say anything.

"There's nothing in the fridge. You're a grown man, but you're in such a tire state?" The girl opened the fridge and took a look. She shook her head and muttered.

Harry was extremely embarrassed but remained silent. As long as the girl didn't mention the rent, she could say whatever she wanted. It was better than asking him for the rent.

"Hmm, what's this?" The girl entered Harry's bedroom and found the helmet placed on the bed. She picked it up and examined it carefully.

"This is a gaming helmet!" The girl seemed to recognize the helmet in her hand. She suddenly turned to look at Harry and said in disbelief.

"You... don't you pay your rent but manage to save money to buy a gaming helmet? And this is a high-end one, at least worth 50,000 dollars. You can even barely afford to eat, yet you're wasting money on games." The girl's chest was heaving up and down, and she had an exasperated expression. Clearly, she was extremely angry at Harry's behavior.

"That was a gift from someone. How could I bear to buy it?" Harry quickly explained.

"Don't lie to me. With your situation, who would give it to you as a gift?" The girl didn't believe Harry's words. It was obvious that he had used the rent money to buy the helmet but was too afraid to admit it."

"Eh!" Harry wanted to say something but stopped. He quickly closed his mouth and didn't say anything else. He felt that the more he spoke, it would get worse. It was better to just stay silent.

The girl circled around for a while, constantly berating Harry with her words. Finally, she sighed in frustration, expressing her disappointment, and left.

Watching the girl leave, Harry heaved a long breath of relief. Fortunately, he had a strong inner self, otherwise, he might have been brought to tears by her remarks.

"Three months' rent, 1,500 dollars." Harry patted his forehead with both hands, feeling anxious and worried. He wasn't sure how much his bonus would be in a few days, and he feared it might only be enough to cover his living expenses.

Harry forced a bitter smile and looked at the helmet in his hand. Maybe he should find a time to sell it. Although he had used it once, it should still be worth some money.

"Bang, bang... Bang!"

The sound of knocking came again. Harry was stunned. He quickly put down his helmet and ran to open the door.

When he opened the door, Harry found it was still the landlord's daughter, but this time she had something else in her hands.

"I'm afraid you'll starve to death in this house. If that happens, my mother and I will be in trouble," the girl said, shaking the items in her hands.

Harry looked closely and noticed that the girl was holding some food. Even though he wasn't the sharpest person, he understood that the girl must have felt sorry for him after seeing his humble living conditions and decided to bring him something to eat.

Harry didn't know what to say for a moment. He only felt warm inside.

They didn't rush him for rent but also waived all the utility bills for him and even gave him food now. Harry really didn't know what to say. At this moment, his emotions couldn't be expressed in words.

"I'll be graduating in two months," the girl said as she helped put the items into the fridge.

"Congratulations," Harry said with a smile.

"I actually really like games too. After graduation, I plan to find a job and earn money to buy a gaming helmet like yours," the girl spoke with excitement, unable to hide her enthusiasm.

"A gaming helmet? If you don't mind, you can have mine. I don't really need it," Harry said.

"It must have been difficult for you to buy it, and besides, I'm capable of making money on my own. I don't need yours," the girl turned her head to look at Harry, puzzled.

"I just play casually, it's not that interesting. Take it," Harry said seriously. He knew that even the cheapest helmet would cost at least tens of thousands of dollars, and it wouldn't be easy for the girl to buy one.

If it were before, Harry, being a practical person, wouldn't have said such things. But after seeing the girl bring him food, everything had changed.

"No, I told my mom that after I earn money from work, if it's still not enough, she'll support me." The girl quickly shook her head and rejected Harry's good intentions.

"You said the game wasn't interesting earlier?" the girl frowned slightly, questioning him.

She had been looking forward to this game ever since she was in school. Unfortunately, she didn't have the money to buy it, and she didn't want to ask her family for money, so she planned to earn money to buy one after graduation. But now that she heard Harry say that it wasn't interesting, she hesitated. Could all the hype be a lie? But everyone at school was praising it.

"I lied to you!"

"Go to hell!"

....

After tidying up everything, Harry watched the girl leave and couldn't help but scratch his head. He still didn't know the name of the landlord's daughter, and the girl didn't say it, so he didn't dare to ask.

Retracting his gaze, Harry turned and returned to his bedroom. He wanted to go online and see if his equipment had been retrieved.

Before entering the game, Harry followed the instructions in the manual and connected his phone to the gaming helmet. This way, he could receive any messages in time.

His job didn't have fixed working hours. He could be busy for several days in a row or have nothing to do for several days. There was no concept of holidays, as even on public holidays, he would still have to work if the company called.
