Kang Yue was dressed in a pretty skirt, taking steps down the staircase. Halfway through, she suddenly smelled something burning. How odd, she thought, wondering if something of hers was burning. She turned to look back and saw smoke billowing from the kitchen. Alarmed, she hurriedly ran down the stairs.
She almost twisted her ankle. In a swift movement, she found herself lying on the ground; the skirt had torn open, split up to the thigh because it was a long dress. She had twisted her foot badly since she had run too quickly due to the urgency, but her shoes couldn't support her. It was hard to express the heartache in a few words.
All she could feel was intense pain in her foot. Looking back, her foot had swollen like a big bun. If only she had known, she wouldn't have worn these shoes. Why sacrifice her feet for the sake of beauty? She feared she might not be able to walk in the future.
