Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Trusting Shen Dong No Matter What_1

Chen Yuyan responded indifferently, "You don't need to say anymore, I trust him."

Chen Yuting said helplessly, "Alright, since he talked to you about investing in futures, did he tell you which commodity to trade? I know someone, the guy we bumped into the day we went shopping, the man next to me. His name is Liu Chao, his dad owns an investment company and has the advantage in this field. Maybe he can persuade Shen Dong to change his mind."

Chen Yuyan hesitated and then said, "He mentioned buying gold futures."

"Okay, I got it. I'll ask around first," Chen Yuting hung up the phone.

After a moment's hesitation, she dialed Liu Chao's number, "I need to talk to you, are you free?"

Liu Chao laughed, "Yes, are you asking me out for dinner and a movie?"

Chen Yuting rolled her eyes, "No, I have a friend who wants to buy gold futures. Your dad is the boss of an investment company; he should have some information, right? Do you think gold futures will rise?"

Liu Chao said, "I'll ask first and get back to you later."

Chen Yuting said, "Alright."

Soon after, Liu Chao sent a message: Gold prices have been fluctuating at high levels. The market expects the Lighthouse Country Federal Reserve to cut interest rates to stimulate economic development, but this is unlikely. A rate cut by the Lighthouse Country Federal Reserve is only a temporary fix, not a cure-all. It's very likely that the Lighthouse Country will use fiscal measures to intervene in the economy. Interest rates are expected to remain unchanged. Technically speaking, gold prices have formed a bearish pattern, and they are very likely to fall.

Chen Yuting: "Thanks."

After replying to Liu Chao, Chen Yuting sent the message to Shen Dong.

The two had broken up, but had not deleted each other on WeChat.

On Shen Dong's end, right after he had gone all-in on gold futures, he received Chen Yuting's message.

He just smiled faintly and paid no attention to it.

However, two minutes later, the phone rang; it was Chen Yuting calling.

"Hello," Shen Dong answered the phone indifferently.

"Did you see the message I sent you just now?" Chen Yuting asked bluntly.

"I saw it," Shen Dong responded indifferently.

"Good that you saw it. I know my sister gave you two million for the house purchase. If you haven't bought gold futures yet, lend the money to me," she said.

"If you've bought them, sell them right away, or the money for the house will definitely be lost."

"I've already talked it over with my sister. She agreed to lend you two million, and I will pay you back three million, principal and interest, after a while."

Chen Yuting's tone was not polite.

"I have already bought, and I'm not going to sell, nor will I lend money to you. If this is all you wanted to say, you can hang up now," Shen Dong said indifferently.

What a joke.

The information from the system is definitely reliable.

What gold price decline? If you operate based on that judgment, you wouldn't even know how you died.

"You..." Chen Yuting was choked with frustration, "Do you know where the message I gave you came from? It's from the boss of an investment company."

"We both graduated from a finance major, you should know that investment company bosses get more reliable information than ordinary people like us."

"Everyone is bearish on gold, and you still bought it. Are you waiting to lose money?" she said, her voice bearing a hint of exasperation.

"The boss of an investment company might not always be right."

"You said it yourself, we both graduated from a finance major; we should be well aware that the market changes in the blink of an eye, anything is possible," he countered.

"Even the great investor Soros has had his setbacks, let alone the boss of a small investment company," Shen Dong remained unmoved.

"What small company? They have assets worth several billion and manage a similarly sized investment company." Chen Yuting said discontentedly.

"So what if it's a few billion in funds? Even Soros, who manages hundreds of billions of US dollars, has had his failures," Shen Dong retorted.

"You..." Chen Yuting was furious, "So, you're saying you won't sell, you won't lend me the money, is that it?"

"Yes." Shen Dong sneered coldly and hung up the phone.

On the other end of the line, Chen Yuting felt like smashing her phone.

This was just too much.

In the past, whatever she said, Shen Dong would do.

He was practically at her beck and call.

She couldn't believe it; they had only broken up a couple of days ago, and he had already changed.

Her mindset hadn't shifted yet; she still thought she was Shen Dong's girlfriend and expected him to listen to her.

Taking a deep breath, Chen Yuting thought it over and sent the same message she had just composed to Chen Yuyan.

Two minutes later, she called Chen Yuyan.

"Sis, you saw the message I just sent you, right?" Chen Yuting asked.

"I saw it," Chen Yuyan replied.

"I just called Shen Dong, and he said he has already bought gold futures. I sent him this message; it's a market analysis from an investment company with a high accuracy rate. But Shen Dong absolutely refuses to sell. Can you please try to persuade him?" Chen Yuting said.

"I won't persuade him; I trust him," Chen Yuyan spoke calmly.

"You..." Chen Yuting was so angry she almost passed out, "Sis, can't you just stop thinking with your love-struck brain for once? This is risk investment. Do you want Shen Dong to lose the money Dad gave you for the house before you'll be satisfied?"

Chen Yuyan hesitated for a moment but still said resolutely, "You don't have to say anymore, I trust him."

Truth be told, the message did make her a bit anxious, but she chose to believe in Shen Dong anyway.

"I give up on you," Chen Yuting said before hanging up the phone.

After thinking it over, she decided to call her father, Chen Yuanxiang.

"What's the matter?" Chen Yuanxiang asked as soon as he picked up the phone.

"Dad, here's the thing: my sister gave the house-buying money you gave her to Shen Dong, and Shen Dong has used that money to invest in futures. You've traded stocks before and should understand the financial market well enough to know the huge risks involved in trading futures. Call Shen Dong and tell him to pull out quickly," Chen Yuting said bluntly.

"If Shen Dong dared to use the home-buying money to invest in futures, he must be confident. I trust him," Chen Yuanxiang mused.

Chen Yuting nearly fainted with anger.

Why does everyone trust Shen Dong?

It's one thing if her sister trusts him; she's probably love-blind.

But for Chen Yuanxiang to trust Shen Dong, too, was something she truly couldn't understand.

How come, in the eyes of Chen Yuyan and Chen Yuanxiang, Shen Dong seemed like some kind of treasure?

Whatever Shen Dong did, they just let him be.

"Dad, I'm telling you, Shen Dong bought gold futures. I just heard that there's a high likelihood that the price of gold will drop, and he could lose all the money you gave for the house. Are you really not going to stop him?"

Chen Yuting took a deep breath and tried to persuade him again.

"Although I don't understand futures, I know about stocks, and I know what this is all about—both stocks and futures are about probabilities. The news you got suggesting a high likelihood of gold prices falling is just a probability. It could also rise. There's no shortage of people who make the wrong call. The information you received might not be correct. Like I said, I trust Shen Dong; he won't let me down," Chen Yuanxiang replied, unmoved and still supportive of Shen Dong.
