The beings were unlike anything Sophie had ever seen before. They were tall and slender, with skin that shimmered like silver. Their eyes were large and almond-shaped, and their movements were graceful and fluid.
Sophie's first instinct was to run, but something held her back. She felt a strange connection to these beings, a sense that they were not dangerous, but curious.
And then, one of the beings reached out a hand, beckoning to her.
Sophie hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and stepped forward. The being touched her forehead, and suddenly, Sophie was flooded with images and sensations.
She saw their civilization, their technology, their struggles and triumphs. She felt a sense of kinship with them, as if she were seeing a distant reflection of herself.
And then the being spoke, in a voice that was both alien and familiar.
