Chapter 23: A Song Of Ice II

...........

That and Silver is seeking more interesting awakeners. Only by observing a wider variety of them can he truly understand them because for once, the Ice girl's mutation was a surprise to him.

The fog was starting to go away, slowly but surely, giving people the ability to see more than a meter around them, a few meters around actually, thus it was time to go back.

So with the girl in his arms, Silver walked back to the group just by the time they finished taking samples.

He spoke no word to the absent-minded girl, but he was observing her closely through the Silver Domain, first observing how her cells interact with the radiation around, making him realize that her endurance is very high. Therefore, the radiation isn't dangerous for her.

As for people finding out about the importance of endurance? Well, that's to be expected.

The only thing that surprised Silver was the mutation of her cells, something that shouldn't theoretically be possible as they were slowly but surely turning icy.

The mechanism of how they work or how that happened was a mystery to Silver, an unknown waiting to be unraveled, but one thing was clear, the laws of physics no longer apply. They were, after all, likely in a completely different universe.

"Let's head back," Silver murmured upon seeing the utter state of exhaustion the group was in, not just physically but mentally, always hearing the growls and the howls of zombies, hearing and seeing their traces, quite the strange day it was.

Back to the truck they went, and considering the fog was getting very thin, Silver allowed Sam to drive while he sat in the back with Natalia and the ice girl, "Ask it away." Silver said, noticing the curiosity in Natalia's eyes.

"Who is she? Why does she look like that?" And Natalia of course jumped at the opportunity.

"I... I don't really know," Silver shrugged, realizing that he doesn't even know her name, "Come to think of it, what's your name?"

"Wow," Natalia gasped in surprise, "Way to ask for a girl's name only after taking her home. Never took you for a player."

"Oh, shut up," Silver chuckled at her antics though, glancing at the ice girl only to see no response or reaction from her, "Well, I'll call you Crystal until you decide to answer."

"Crystal?" Natalia also looked at the girl, feeling that the name suits her well, especially with her icy crystal mutation.

"They stopped?" Silver suddenly raised a brow as he murmured, much to Natalia's confusion.

"Who?" Natalia curiously asked.

"Some survivors. The previous owners of Crystal, I guess?" Silver chuckled as he said, "I know the general location of their base."

"And?" Natalia also chuckled, "What are we gonna do?"

"Exactly what you're thinking," Silver let out a strange smile as he responded.

As early as when he met the survivors, Silver had already decided on the perfect course of action, starting by provoking them by trying to take Crystal, then killing some of them.

What followed was something that was impossible for most to detect, even the tracker as Silver injected a few of his micro Silver Effects into their bodies, letting them settle there.

Those few little Silver Effects were created by the division of the T virus, thus they could still exist outside of his domain, but he can sense their general direction.

Although Silver wasn't totally certain whether they'll take the bodies with them, but considering the two were awakeners with mental abilities before their death, he thought it was likely.

Awakeners are the best test subjects, and Silver was certain that many labs across the world are researching them 24/7.

So Silver closed his eyes to rest, thoroughly exhausted, having been controlling dozens of Silver Effects for hours, exhausting himself not only energy-wise but also mentally.

It was as if the weight of the entire world fell on his shoulders, slowly but surely slipping away as he closed his eyes... Until something strange happened.

Silver felt something akin to a heartbeat in his soul, then another and another. Heartbeats reverberated through expanding from the very core of his soul to envelop his entire domain.

He opened his eyes... Silver eyes, a result of a deeper transformation in his soul as the transformation that he called the Silver Soul has been fully completed, having been exponentially accelerated due to the load he put on his soul today.

Ah, if only that brought him even a shred of happiness for that seemed to have triggered something as Silver heard a calling, a seemingly voice coming from nothingness.

[Ah, child... You have finally awakened... Come... Come to your mother]

The voice was mysterious, seemingly acting on the rules of existence to even affect his desire as Silver clearly felt a sudden overpowering desire to seek the source of that sweet gentle voice.

Without even a shred of hesitation, almost as if that was always a possibility in Silver's mind, he brought out a knife and stabbed himself in the hand, stunning pretty much everyone in the car.

Even the dazed Crystal was awakened from her seemingly half-dead state as she eyed him strangely, only to hear his trembling voice, "Natalia, put me to sleep... For as long as you wish."

Just like him, Natalia showed not a shred of hesitation as she stabbed him with a syringe, quickly putting him to sleep, and bringing him closer to her, a look of worry appeared on her face.

"Drive quicker!!" Sam did just that. Despite their confusion, they remained silent, only Crystal acting like an actual person for the first time, gently putting her hand on Silver's bleeding hand, stopping the bleeding with her ice as it spread like a virus over his hand.

To Silver, it was as if he just closed his eyes and then opened them right after, finding himself tightly tied to a bed, one usually used for the crazy.

"Tell me my full name," Before him stood Natalia who started by asking quite the strange question, but what can she really do? It was quite the strange situation.

"For how long have I been out?" Silver completely ignored her question as he asked with a frown.

"Twenty-four hours," Natalia responded.

"Why so long?" Silver frowned even more.

"Hmm, yeah, it's definitely you. No one cares about wasted time more than you," Natalia shook her head as she walked up to him, untied him, and disconnected all the medical tubes and things usually necessary for patients in comas, "What happened? And your eyes?"

"Something did happen, but let's not talk about it," Silver shook his head as he stood up from the bed, "Take it as if nothing happened, alright?"

Natalia nodded as she brought him a bathrobe, carefully putting it on his naked form. She did have to run some tests on him while he was out after all.

"Thank you," Silver said, quite calmly despite what happened, "What were the results?"

"Strangely very good," Natalia shook her head, informing him about the results of her tests, "Nothing out of the ordinary."

Silver wasn't surprised in the least as he went to take a quick shower before heading directly to his lab, finally getting a quiet time to think things through.

'Control... Nothingness, and maybe Creation?' Silver mused on what rules or aspects the Silver Effect works upon, control being the latest that he had discovered as late as when he started the transformation of his Silver Soul.

And that made him very cautious, thus why the moment his transformation ended, he basically eliminated all the Silver Effects within his domain, even the ones in his soul... However.

[Ah, child... You have finally awakened... Come... Come to your mother]
