Chapter 3 - A Promise Fufilled

A Promise Fulfilled

____ gasped, like the surfacing from the water, she broke through as she, no, Sophie! She was a girl named Sophie and she had a really bad dream, what was it about?

It felt strange. Sophie knew, there was something, in a part of her consciousness, something she was forgetting. It was like an important bit of her life was missing. Something so important that she felt a deep aching, somewhere, empty.

Sighing, she shook her head and sat up from her bed. It felt strange, like it was familiar but also, foreign and new. 'Anyways, it's time to wash up, right?' Now that she thought about it, her mind also felt so... clear?

'Well that's a contradiction. It's like the difference between hot and cold, yep, the boiling temperature of water was... Enough!' Getting up from her bed, Sophie moved off the bed, cringing at the slight squeaks as if the bed was protesting her leave.

Sophie stood up and made her way to the bathroom, still cringing from the squeaking of the wooden floorboards as she walked her way to the mirror...

"I swear, it wasn't rimmed with gold..." She stared at her reflection in the mirror, and frowned. The same auburn hair, almond shaped eyes, freckles dusting her nose and hair up in a plait with deep brown eyes, and of course, a zit or two. Somehow though, it felt... wrong.

In a vision somewhere, no, her dream, she remembered herself, the same plait, the same eyes, crescents but, golden eyes and a strange glowing head of silver hair. She had felt... powerful... and tired.

A deep feeling of calm surged over her. "Calm down" she whispered to herself, she could feel her heart beating in weak rhythms, ragged breathing as her breath slowed. She glanced down at her hands, and like a rush of tidal waves, she heard a voice, layered infinitely.

  "Contraraz" [Promise]

"Aaargh!" Sophie clutched her head, "Enough!" and with a rupture of golden light that flooded out through her eyes.

Clutching her head forced herself to close her eyes, the light flooding through her eyelids, she screamed, her throat raw from the pain. Then, it stopped. Abruptly as it came.

"whAat was that?" She winced at the sound of her voice cracking. Sophie slowly looked back up at the mirror as she faced her reflection.

…

"What?" Opening her eyes, though no light burst from her eyes, she could see, and feel a coppery brass colour creeping through her iris. It felt oddly pleasant, as if a cool gel was spreading through her eyes, soothing the pain she felt from the previous blindness of the light from her eyes. As she continued staring, her iris shifted from dark brown to a brassy colour, settling on amber, then finally morphing into a shocking scarlet.

She could feel other changes happening throughout her body, lengthening canines, a growing sense of hunger and throughout her whole body, a growing sense of power…
