The gentle creaking of the massive gate echoed as Johan stepped into the vast arena. The muted light, trickling from slits high above, barely pierced the thick, suffocating gloom that enshrouded the place. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, towering pillars, weathered by time, revealed themselves. They stood like sentinels, vigilant and silent, casting long, wavering shadows that danced and merged with the darkness.
The stillness was unsettling. 'This feels... alive,' Johan's thoughts whispered, 'as if the shadows themselves have a heartbeat.'
He could almost hear the soft hiss of something hidden, the subtle slide of a creature unseen. An aura of anticipation hung heavy, and Johan sensed he wasn't alone. "Who's there?" he called out, trying to mask the unease creeping into his voice.
