The tundra, which had been a pristine canvas of white, took a jarring turn as Johan wandered into an area that seemed completely out of place. The snow here had been disrupted and tainted, the serenity replaced by an eerie foreboding.
'Why does the snow look... tarnished here?' Johan thought, his brows furrowing. As he pressed on, the reason for the land's affliction came into full view. Grotesque toads, each more revolting than the last, infested the area. Their bodies were bloated to an unnatural degree, as if they were on the verge of bursting. Pus-filled boils covered their slimy hides, pulsating and oozing a viscous yellow fluid. But what was most disturbing was the stench. It was a nauseating amalgamation of rot and decay, assaulting Johan's senses, making the cold air thick and heavy.
