When Kara saw the guy up there, her lungs immediately started to fill with air. She could tell he was focusing on her despite the shades covering his eyes. As she took in the man's features, butterflies flittered to life within her tummy.
She wouldn't describe him as attractive, but he was certainly fascinating. His high cheekbones and the stubble bordering his square jaw had sculpted planes that itched for her to touch with her fingertips. As he observed her, his sable eyebrows came together over the bridge of his roman nose. She didn't know why he had sunglasses on inside, but she would give everything to get them off so she could see what color his eyes were.
She had never had the want to touch another guy before, but for the first time in her life, she saw why people read romance stories. before standing up on her tiptoes to kiss him, to take off that coat from his shoulders and caress him. She took a step forward because she may feel their arms around her and pull her in.
She was pushed back and distracted from the guy when another lady knocked into her. As she was abruptly brought back to reality, Kara blinked. Before leaving the dance floor to hover on the edge, she looked over the people in the room. She was afraid that the peculiar draw that guy had on her might cause her to lose herself if she looked up once again. She had a purpose for being here, and she wouldn't let anything stop her.
When she observed several of the other men and women were also wearing sunglasses, she concluded it wasn't weird that the guy was wearing them inside. She reasoned that it must be a human fashion trend.
Declan chirped from alongside Lucian, "Hello, sugar." "I believe she could create a delicious treat."
Declan had also seen the lady, and Lucian didn't need to turn to face him to know that. She was as noticeable among the roughly a hundred people there as the full moon is among the stars. Declan moved forward to have a closer look at the lady.
Lucian growled, half inclined to hurl his companion over the balcony. "Don't," he commanded.
He was unsure about the source of the urge. He wasn't a simple guy, but he was understanding. He had long since learnt that it was useless to give in to rage and lose his temper. Lucian was about to strike Declan when he stared at the lady as if he could see right through her clothing.
Declan's attention moved to him. "Are you tonight claiming her for yourself?"
Lucian managed a portion of, "We have a task. Despite the heavy shades covering his eyes, he knew Declan was aware of the fact that he was still paying attention to the lady.
"After the mission, then?"
Lucian forced himself to gaze away from her and toward Declan. The relaxed demeanor of his companion was gone; he straightened away from the railing and took a sharp step back. Before the foul smell of trash filled the air, Lucian had no chance to consider Declan's response to him. He turned back to the dance floor to look for the source of the odor.
As Joseph emerged from the shadows from the entrance, the gathering of people moved away from the corner. However, some of the ladies and men almost fell over themselves to be closer to him while the other creatures walked away from him.
The humans were drawn to Joseph like a bee to honey by the vampire's natural ability to entice someone closer. Their instincts warned them that this wasn't honey but rather a Venus flytrap that was about to spring and ensnare them entirely. Unfortunately for these people, Joseph's allure overcame their need to flee or fight.
Lucian turned to face the lady who was standing about 20 feet from Joseph. When the woman's eyes caught sight of Joseph walking through the throng, he quickly pulled back his lips. She didn't swagger up to the vampire as the other women did. Her hand instead moved to something at her side.
Lucian's eyes widened at her peculiar response. At the edge of the dance floor, the hunter with the black hair reappeared, catching the woman's attention.
When Nathan saw Kara on the opposite side of the dance floor, Kara wanted to slap herself. Five minutes after entering the club, she was busted after finally succeeding in escaping the fortress and arriving here. What a waste of being a silent hunter.
She had utterly wasted the chance, and she would never have the chance to experience freedom again. Nathan would see to it that way. She wouldn't be able to see the monster's demise if it didn't happen tonight.
She had recognized the moment the vampire who murdered her father came into view based on the information she had been given about him and the smell emanating from him. As her blood raced with the desire to see the monster killed, she had also forgotten about everything else.
Lucian briefly saw the hunter and lady lock eyes before he quickly began to approach her without the humans noticing his approach. Even while the born hunters weren't vampires, they weren't totally human either.
The hunter halted in the center of the dance floor ten feet before he got to the lady. His nostrils flared, and he turned his head to face Joseph. Before he drew closer to the lady, the hunter's gaze flashed between Joseph and her.
The loud music made it impossible for Lucian to understand what they were saying to one other, but when the guy grabbed the woman's arm, she wrenched it back and put her hands on her hips. Lucian's throat rumbled with a deep growl. Even though Joseph was right there, he found himself considering breaking the hunter's hand for daring to touch her when it was clear that she didn't want to be touched.
despite the fact that touching her was all he wanted to do.
As she talked, the woman's hands flitted across the air; the male did the same as they came face to face. When the throng dispersed, Joseph walked right up to them. As he passed the male hunter, Joseph's focus was on the ladies at his sides. Speaking came to a halt as the couple concentrated on Joseph. Their expressions betrayed a loathing that Lucian thought went beyond a hunter's typical hostility of vampires.
The guy grabbed the woman's arm and escorted her over to where the other three hunters were waiting by the dance floor as Joseph disappeared from view. She was clearly what she was since she moved at the same deadly pace as the male. The disappointment Lucian felt upon realizing the lady was entirely off-limits was pushed aside.
"A female hunter," he mumbled.
Declan said, "I thought they were a myth.
Lucian went back to Joseph and answered, "Appearantly not." The only thing that mattered was finishing this tonight, regardless of who or what the lady was. All he could do was hope the hunters avoided him.
He would rather not have to murder them as well.
Saying "Let's go."
He marched up the stairs to where Killean and Saxon were waiting. One of his strongest warriors, Lucien, was his route to meet them, but Lucian didn't believe he would arrive in time for this fight. After Joseph went savage, Lucien had grudgingly agreed to take over the management of the training center. If Joseph wasn't defeated tonight, Lucian wouldn't bother to relocate the training center out of New York or hire someone else to oversee it since he had anticipated defeating Joseph sooner.
After stopping to look around the throng as he down the final flight of stairs, Lucian entered the club and followed Joseph's odor. Any vampire who murdered a human had a rotting and garbage-like odor. If they didn't kill again, the stench ultimately vanished. A vampire's stench became worse the more people they murdered. Sometimes the smell of certain Savages became preferred to roadkill combined with excrement and month-old carcasses. However, the smell was only detectable by purebred vampires.
Lucian could tell from the smell of Joseph that he had been having more fun than he imagined.
As Lucian made his way through the throng, he got another sight of the hunter with black hair to his left. His eyes automatically turned to the lady, who was now standing next to one of the other males. She glared at him as he put his fingers around her thin bicep.
To escape her fiancé's grip, Kara thought about giving Logan the boot in the nuts, but she refrained out of fear that if she did so, she might frighten the vampire they were hunting away or, worst still, endanger Nathan. Logan's irritation pounded into her. She didn't care that he was upset with her; after they were married, he would have to get accustomed to her defying orders.
Logan had to understand that she wasn't acting like the respectable hunter she was expected to be. That was known to everyone in the fortress. Over the years, she had encountered more difficulties than all the other ladies put together.
Nathan and his buddies used to chuckle at her antics. They had long since ceased laughing, and this evening was no exception. Asher and Jayce both fixed their attention on her as if she were an extraterrestrial cat with 10 legs that had fallen from a beam above. Nathan tapped his foot and ran a hand through his black hair without turning to face her.
She cocked her head to the side to see Logan. Logan was obviously what most people would consider attractive, in contrast to the guy on the balcony, with his pine-colored eyes, light brown hair, and sophisticated features. Unfortunately, she was unaffected by his good looks. She attempted to pull her arm free once again, but his grip on her just became tighter.
"Let me go," she demanded.
"No." Her jaws clenched at the straightforward denial.
Lucian saw the lady attempting to escape the man's grip. There was not enough time for him to divert to get her away from the hunter, and a confrontation with the hunters tonight was the last thing they needed. He followed Joseph to one of the back entrances by skulking through the darkness.
Joseph looked bored as a human lady rubbed her breasts on his chest while slapping her hips against his. When Joseph's eyes caught sight of Lucian's above the sea of human heads separating them, his head rose, and a grin curled over his lips.
Before driving his teeth into the woman's neck, Joseph knelt down and murmured something in her ear. A piece of the woman's neck was torn off by Joseph, who then spat it out. The music's rhythm muffled the woman's screams as she stumbled back. Blood dripped from her fingertips as she rushed to the cut with her hand.
"Shit!" Lucian bellowed. "Saxon, look after her!"
Whether the lady lived or died, he didn't give a damn, but if she did, she couldn't be permitted to talk about the guy who had ripped her throat out with his fangs. She had vampire fangs on her, so even if she died, she couldn't. If she did, it would just draw in more hunters.
After spinning and slamming through the rear door, Joseph fled out into the next alley. She sagged to one side and landed on top of him. As the coppery smell of her blood reached him, Lucian helped her stand still. The allure of her blood was ignored as he pulled her toward Saxon.
He caught sight of another alley door sliding shut out of the corner of his eye. The female hunter was positioned at the edge of the dance floor when he turned to look behind him. When he learned they had abandoned her, Lucian paused, but she made no attempt to go with her brothers. Then, he saw the guy holding her sprinting in the direction of the opposite exit. The guy looked back at the lady after coming to a halt next to the door and leaning against the wall.
Lucian didn't glance back as he turned away from them and followed Joseph out the door. His worry was for her family in the alley, not for the hunting lady.
