Lucian questioned, "Do you plan to fight to the death?"
Given that it would be your death rather than ours, Nathan said, "If that's what it takes."
Lucian changed his posture as Declan and Killean laughed. Kara's heart almost choked her. She said, "No," incoherently.
She realized she had erred as soon as she had said the words. Everyone had forgotten about her until she spoke. All eyes were now focused on her.
Nathan said, "Kara, get out!"
Her gaze darted all over the crowd. She placed her trembling hand to her cunning lips. She couldn't escape from there however. She couldn't let her brother go, and for some odd reason, she also didn't want Lucian to suffer any harm.
Later, when she was alone herself, she would kick herself in the foolish ass for finally coming across vampires and acting like a total moron because she was intrigued by one of them. She was forced to ignore her strange response to Lucian for the time being since the other two offered her nothing.
"The match ends in a tie. There isn't any more blood to shed, she murmured. "We now have the person we sought. There will be further evenings to go on like this.
"And there will be more innocent deaths before then!" Snarling, Nathan.
She pleaded, "Nathan, please, I can't lose you too!"
Lucian recognized that Nathan, the hunter, was either her boyfriend or spouse. He thought about putting an end to his rivalry with Nathan for her as he licked his lips and looked at the vein in Nathan's neck.
Nathan roared at her, "Get out of here, Kara!"
He overheard Nathan speaking to her and let out a low growl. Killean and Declan exchanged stunned looks, but none of them could match his level of amazement.
Nathan pressed harder into Joseph's neck. He seemed to believe Lucian would demand payment in order to return Joseph. Lucian, however, had no desire to approach Nathan, especially if it meant leaving Kara defenseless.
Kara began, "Nathan—"
"I said
The alley was filled with the clamor of the command. Kara would have liked not to see the carnage that she knew was going to happen, but if there was any way she could prevent it, she would. Looking at Lucian, whose head was cocked in her direction, she let one of her stakes slip from her fingers.
He was wicked, according to all she had learned during the years. But something in her told her he wasn't. She could die tonight because of that conviction. She couldn't bring herself to fight someone who hadn't pursued her, even though if it had, she deserved to die for her idiocy.
She turned back to her brother and said, "I'm not going."
Nathan's eyes became wider. Declan cast a sidelong look at her while grinning broadly in approval. Before she had a chance to consider what that grin meant, a big hand suddenly encircled her arm. The two guys appeared from the shadows behind her, and she twisted to face them.
The person holding her returned her gaze. Her spine tingled as his ruthless black eyes met hers. His attractive face was framed by sandy blond hair, and his upper lip was pulled into a disapproving grimace.
She knew he was another vampire without even having to see his fangs. Her heart raced as his hold on her become painful. He proceeded forward to join Lucian and his company, followed by the other vamp who had emerged with him. As she became aware that the hunters were now outnumbered, Kara's heart fell.
Although Lucian didn't give out any homicidal emotions, she was certain that the vampire holding her would snap her neck and walk over her corpse with the same care he used to put on his socks.
The vamp holding her said, "Hello, boys," his voice as cold as the rest of him.
It's about time you arrived, Lucien, Killean said.
Lucien shrugged and said, "Looks like Saxon and I are just in time, Killean. We're all in a real pickle. He gestured at the vamp Nathan was holding, "especially Joseph there. Everyone seems to be out for your blood, asshole.
When Joseph tried to speak, all that came out was a stifled ugh. As Kara looked at the vampire who had slain her father, hatred roiled in her stomach. Even though she now knew his name, to her he would always remain the vampire who had destroyed her whole world. The person who had inspired her to go through the limitations she had resisted her whole life.
"Give her up!" Lucien was yelled at by Nathan.
"Is she really what I think she is?" Inquiring while entirely disobeying her brother's order to examine her more attentively, Lucien questioned.
Killean said, "She is a natural hunter.
Before she had a chance to consider, Kara kicked him in the shin as she leaned away from him. Lucien sprang and gave her a closer look. He said, "Feisty little hunter, aren't you?"
Lucian responded, "Let go of her, Lucien." She is not involved in this.
His gaze caught Kara's. Was Lucian attempting to defend? Even By his statements, Nathan seemed perplexed.
She has a significant role in this, according to what I can discern given that we have her and they have Joseph, Lucien retorted. Not to add, no one has ever seen a female hunter who was born. She could be something we can utilize to our favor when dealing with these dumb, do-gooders.
Lucian whirled to face them. She took a step back as the rage radiated from his body. When Lucien gripped her arm, she winced uncontrollably. She felt a rush of adrenaline as Lucian strode toward them, his threat emanating from every crevice of his body. She had misjudged him; instead of leaving her dead corpse behind, he planned to drain her empty.
Kara stubbornly raised her chin, refusing to crouch in fear of his approach. Despite the fact that she was confident he could break her skull with only one of his hands, she would put up a fierce battle against him. As she waited for her chance to do the most harm imaginable, her fingers moved toward the stake at her side. She would guarantee that Lucian would remember her years after killing her.
"Don't approach her!" Nathan's shout shook the atmosphere.
Her brother raced forward and shoved Joseph at Jayce. Killean moved forward to deflect his blow. As her brother crashed into Killean, Kara screamed and stumbled forward to assist him. They both fell to the ground in an uproarious heap.
She took two steps toward them when Lucien abruptly sent her reeling back. The hand of Lucian swung out to grab Lucien by the forearm.
"I said to let her go!" Ordered by Lucian.
Kara's mouth fell open.
What's wrong with you, exactly? Lucien urged.
Say "Let her go." Kara was confident that the bone in Lucien's arm would shatter as a result of his hand's tight pressure.
After releasing her, Lucien looked at Lucian with troubled brows. He said, "I'd rather fight anyway," and stalked away from the two of them.
Kara suddenly recognized that the conflict had reopened. Jayce was the only one still standing back, and Joseph had been assigned to him.
"No!" Kara moved forward as her brother and Killean began to circle each other like wolves, determined to put a stop to this or at the at least, try to assist.
"No." Lucian blocked her path by taking a step forward with his sturdy physique.
His chest alone was three times bigger than hers, so he quickly became all she could see. Although he wasn't as tall as the others, he was without a doubt the strongest person there. She needed not see him in action to understand it. She was confronted by an elderly vampire who had powers beyond her comprehension, and this was something that every strand of her DNA was aware of.
As her eyes landed on his shadowed ones, her lips parted in a sigh. She didn't know what it was about him, but she couldn't bring herself to care that he was a vampire—not when his proximity electrified her skin and made her want to touch him so much.
She was aching for more of him.
Numerous thousands of hunters were now tossing and turning in their graves. Though she was filled with self-hatred, she was unable to get the strength to strike the man with her stake.
The fragrance of her desire in the air drove Lucian to shift as he became rigid. She also desired him. She was perplexed by her response to him, and her brow wrinkled. He shared her uncertainty, thus he perfectly understood it.
He wasn't sure why, but he was driven to find out whether her skin was really as smooth as it seemed to be. He leaned out to stroke her face without thinking. Her skin was as smooth as beautifully woven silk under the pads of his fingertips. She didn't turn away from him or seem disgusted. She moved her face into his hand, brushing her lips on his palm, much to his surprise.
They were both abruptly separated by a loud boom coming from behind him, which also swung the world back around to him.
He screamed, "Shit!"
How could he have ignored the struggle occurring behind him? How could he have abandoned his buddies to face the hunters and Joseph alone?
He sternly told her, "Go!" Get to safety, now.
Being aware that he would never see her again, he turned away from her.
"Wait!" His teeth scraped against one other as her pale palm on his arm burned into his skin, forcing his cock to leap in reaction. He wasn't a horny teenager, but yet this lady had managed to turn him into one when his men needed him. She caught his over-the-shoulder gaze. I beg you not to do this.
He snorted, "We don't want this," and yanked his arm away before she could take his attention away from his work any further.
She said, "I... I don't understand.
The answer is "No, your kind never has."
Anyone else would have been put off by the fury in his voice, but she seemed unaffected.
She pleaded, "Please, I can't lose him." Ronan erupted in rage as she continued to beg for her lover's life while lusting for him. He thought of murdering Nathan just so that he wouldn't be able to keep getting what he so much wanted for himself. The phrase "not my brother."
A: "Your brother?"
"Yes."
Your brother is going to be okay. Unless he was already deceased. "Now go!"
I said, "Thank you."
At those words, his chest tightened. "Go."
As he rushed in the direction of the others, Ronan didn't turn to face her. He needed a big fight and to die in order to rid himself of his response to her.
