What ensued afterward was a sequence of chaos. Niels appeared out of nowhere and lunged at the Castellan, securing his wrists behind his back before he could fire another shot.
Lord Ernest was hugging Runa's body as blood gushed out of the bullet wound. He pressed her body to his chest, crying and begging Runa not to die. He was rocking Runa's body back and forth, and he was so focused on the risk that he didn't even think about calling for help.
It was the same as what Runa did. She was so focused on preventing Lord Ernest from getting hit by the bullet that she didn't even think about calling for help. If other people who were nearby knew about the threat, they could do something. If Lord Ernest himself knew what was coming at him, he could have the time to defend herself.
Both of them were blinded by the urgency of the situation, and none of them reacted well.
