Count Yannik tied the horse somewhere in the city, far from the exile house to avoid suspicions if anyone was watching near the house.
"State your name and your purpose of being here!" The guard pretended to question Count Yannik.
He spoke a fake name. The guard checked the inside of the basket and let him in.
Count Yannik entered the house, arriving right at the dining room. It was a modest house, having only three rooms. The kitchen and dining room were in the same place. He put down the basket, took out the jams, and placed them on the table for easy spotting.
He knocked on the bedroom door and let himself in when Countess Augusta said nothing. She was in the bed, covering herself with the blanket. Count Yannik didn't know if his wife had been sleeping or if she pretended to sleep when she heard someone coming.
