ARWAN
Standing in front of the basket, I watch it as I have since arriving here. My eyes can't turn away from it, as if they're glued to it. I can feel my heart racing in my chest, always remembering the sense of victory, scoring, and leading my team to break new records. I remember every feeling, every emotion. Exactly as if it were yesterday, I remember how much basketball meant to me. It was so vital that I couldn't see anything else and had no goals other than to join the best players in the NBA.
I guess a lot of things have changed.
I get into position to shoot, ready to score, but I stop at the last moment, feeling that my leg doesn't agree. I wince as I feel the pain, which is still there despite my hours of physiotherapy. Two long years have passed since that fateful day when my leg injury put an end to my basketball dreams. Today, in this echoing gymnasium, I'm doing everything possible to recover what was once second nature.
