Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

One month later.

In the pitch black night, one could not even see their own fingers, the rain poured down on the plains, thunder roared, lightning flashed across the night sky, illuminating the plains.

"I wonder where it went!" Hongjun wiped his face, looking around in the dark, it was as though there were countless of dangers lurking in the dark, Spirit Demon Qi permeating everywhere.

"Stop chasing!" The Carp Demon followed behind and shouted, "We are almost at Chang 'an!"

Hongjun shouted back: "Kill one is one!"

Hongjun stood on the plain road. His whole body was drenched, and his hair stuck to his forehead. He could not stop gasping for breath. After a long and arduous journey from Taihang Mountains to Guanlong, his clothes had long been tattered. Half of his body was still covered in blood, flowing down along with the rain, soaking into the mud.

At that moment, his mind was filled with the scene of the thatched hut burning in the plains of Qin Creek, and the tragic scene of the children being bitten off.

He looked around cautiously, the sound of the rain covering the plains and the fields, the "Sha Sha" sounds of the Spirit Demons passing through. After the lightning, the world was only left with the heavy rain, in the darkness, the only thing left was the pendant on his neck, shining with a warm light.

A loud explosion sounded out, from the wheat field, a dark and swarthy Spirit Demon leaped out, its bloody mouth filled with sharp teeth, with five blood red eyes on its head, it was like a catfish the size of a house, but it had four claws, and its claws were covered in a slippery mucus, biting down on Hongjun!

"It's an Ao Fish!"

The carp demon screamed. Hong Jun suddenly turned around and with a wave of his hands, he opened up a dream-like light barrier. The carp demon slammed into the barrier and let out a painful cry before falling backwards.

In a flash, Hongjun flipped a flying knife in his hand, and the knife flew out, shooting towards the Ao Fish's main eye!

The Immortal Slaying Flying Knife was a treasure left behind by Immortal Monarch Lu Ya in ancient times. It was divided into the four elements of Flying, Wind, Thunder, Water, and Fire. The moment the Thunder Flying Knife appeared, it immediately led the lightning in the sky and descended like a waterfall. The Ao Yu turned its head to avoid it, but the side eye on its forehead was pierced by the Flying Knife. It instantly let out a roar and rolled on the ground. Following that, it dived into the mud and disappeared.

The next moment, mud splattered everywhere on the official road. The ground broke open like a wave and shot out into the distance. Hongjun immediately grabbed the Carp Demon and stuffed it into his backpack. He mounted the horse and shouted, "Jia —!"

Chang 'an City was shrouded in the darkness brought about by the storm. On top of the city wall, many soldiers were wearing bamboo hats, sitting under the eaves and taking a nap. Right at this moment, a loud roar of demonic beasts suddenly came from outside the city.

"What's going on outside?"

The soldiers woke up one after another and gathered on top of the city wall. Lightning flashed across the sky. At the end of the official road outside the city, there was an extremely strange scene. There was light flashing in the mud, and the electricity shot out in all directions. The mud was flying everywhere, and the ground was broken open. It was like there was an invisible war chariot rushing along the official road to Chang 'an's outer city gate.

Behind it was a man who was galloping on a horse. He roared, "Where do you think you're going —!"

"Release the arrows! Release the arrows —! "

"Chang 'an curfew — no one is allowed to enter the city —!"

However, the warning came too late. Or it could be said that the unforeseen event happened too quickly. Before the city defense captain's voice died away, the invisible giant with lightning had already crashed into the moat!

"Roar —!" With a wild roar, a black giant rushed out of the moat and leaped.

All the soldiers on top of the city wall opened their mouths in a daze. They looked at the four-legged giant Ao Yu swaying its tail and rising into the air. There was still a flickering electric light on its forehead.

With a leap of ten feet, it drew an arc from the top of the city wall with mud and water splashing from the moat. With a crash, it destroyed the roof tiles and flipped into the city.

The city defense captain was speechless.

In the next moment, the giant Ao Yu crashed into the ground of Chang 'an city. The stone tiles shattered and flew in all directions. The Ao Yu sank into the ground and rushed into the main road of the city with the electric light floating on the surface.

"Ah —!" Dozens of soldiers came back to their senses and shouted in fear.

"Stop chasing!" A voice shouted in the night.

"The flying dagger is still on it!" Another voice shouted.

"Call the flying dagger back! Are you stupid?! "

"You can't call it back! With the flying dagger, it can't escape underground. Once you call it back, it will disappear into the ground! "

Immediately after, a grappling hook shot up the cornice of Chang 'an city wall. The white light reflected a vigorous figure like a god leaping up. The soldiers once again looked on helplessly as Hongjun stepped on the cornice. He spread his arms in the air and jumped toward the ground, flying into the city.

"Quick, quick, quick … notify the Featherwood Guard —!" On top of the city wall, the guard captain shouted in panic.

Inside Chang 'an city, Hongjun threw out the grappling hook again. It hooked onto the eaves on the side of the road to slow down the downward momentum. He rolled and landed on the ground.

"Where did it run off to?" Hongjun said.

"I told you not to chase …" The Carp Demon was in Hongjun's backpack. Its fish head popped out and its mouth opened and closed to drink rainwater.

"I already chased it!" Hongjun said. "You — Hongjun!"

"Behind me! Behind me!" The Carp Demon instantly cried out. Its eyes saw a flash of lightning turn into an alley.

"Who is committing a crime in the middle of the night —!"

"The glowing man! Catch him! "

The sound of horse hooves rang out. The night patrol rushed over, accompanied by a rain of arrows. The Carp Demon cried out, hurriedly urging Hongjun to retreat. Hongjun dodged and chased the demon into the alley. The ground was filled with broken bricks and stones. The Ao Fish had already disappeared. In its place was the loud rumbling of the neighboring alley and the screams of the common people in the middle of the night.

"Where is this?" Hongjun finally came back to his senses. He raised his head to look for the eaves to throw the grappling hook over, but found himself in the middle of a deep alley. Both sides were bare and had no place to stand.

"Someone's coming." The Carp Demon behind him said again.

Hongjun suddenly turned around and saw that the soldiers had already caught up. The leader shouted, "Found it. It's here!"

Hongjun continuously retreated. Clearly, he didn't know how to deal with this situation. He couldn't treat innocent mortals as monsters and kill them. However, the guards in front of him showed no mercy. With a "swoosh", a rain of arrows filled the sky and shot towards him. Hongjun immediately shook out the Protective Divine Light. With a "buzz", he blocked the arrows and was sent flying. Someone screamed on the spot as he was shot down from his horse.

"Are you alright?" Hongjun was a little terrified. He was afraid that he would accidentally kill a mortal.

"Monster!" A clear voice shouted. "Surrender!"

Immediately, a general stirred up the rainwater on the ground and rushed towards Hongjun!

"Stop fighting! Leave quickly! "The Carp Demon shouted.

"Where are you going!" Hongjun dodged sideways. He didn't dare to throw the flying dagger for fear of hurting the general. He shouted, "I'm not a monster!"

"You're a monster." The Carp Demon corrected him from behind. "Your father is a great monster with an authentic bloodline. Why aren't you a monster?"

Hongjun, "…"

Although the general didn't have any strength, his martial arts were really impressive. Hongjun tried to rush out of the alley several times, but his sword blocked his way. He had no choice but to shake out the Protective Divine Light of Five Colors.

The rain covered the sky and the ground, and thunder rumbled.

"I'm not fighting with you anymore!" Hongjun shouted loudly, he ran up the high wall of the narrow alley in a few steps, stepped on the high wall and did a somersault, using the wall opposite him as leverage, he flipped over the military general's head in an attempt to escape.

Unexpectedly, the general suddenly turned around. With a roar, he rushed forward and crashed into Hongjun with his sword. When the sword collided with the Protective Divine Light of Five Colors, it actually broke through Hongjun's Protective Divine Light with a "buzz"!

Hongjun never expected that there would be a weapon in the world that could break through his Protective Divine Light. He immediately turned around in the air. His left hand bent and his right hand blocked. At the same time, his upper body suddenly leaned back!

In an instant, the falling raindrops seemed to have solidified in the air. Every drop of water reflected a bizarre scene.

In the flowing light, Hongjun looked into the general's eyes. However, in the next moment, the general's sword went straight for Hongjun's throat. As Hongjun leaned back, the pendant around his neck and the necklace swung up to meet the blade of the sword.

The weapon in his hand was not ordinary iron! Hongjun felt as if he was struck by lightning. The thought flashed through his mind, but it was too late. The sword first broke the necklace, then the pendant. The crystal pendant shattered with a "bang" and turned into fine powder. Then, a dazzling flash of light burst out in the alley!

In the stormy Chang 'an City, a hurricane of white light swept up in an instant, illuminating the magnificent capital of the Tang Dynasty as if it was daytime.

The strong light disappeared in an instant. The wind swept up pushed Hongjun and the general away at the same time. Hongjun was swept away by the wind and fell heavily to the ground.

The surroundings returned to silence. Only the sound of the rainstorm could be heard.

Hongjun groaned and struggled to get up. He wiped the water in his eyes and subconsciously touched his neck. In an instant, he felt as if he had been struck by lightning.

Where was the pendant?! Broken?

Broken?!

Broken!!!

The sky was falling!

Hongjun's face collapsed. He turned to look at the groaning soldiers on the ground and then at the general in front of him. The general was motionless. Apparently, he had fallen into a coma.

"Are you okay?!" Hongjun patted his face and shouted anxiously, "Wake up! Where is my Heart Lantern?! "

The general was wearing a black armor. The moment he broke the pendant, he was swept up by the hurricane of the explosion and fell into the deepest part of the alley. The sky was getting brighter. Outside the alley, there were chaotic shouts, angry shouts, and female screams …

Oh no. Hongjun's mind raced. The pendant was gone. What should he do? No, he had to calm down. All his thoughts were on the person in front of him.

Hongjun tried his best to pull the general up. However, the armor was too heavy. Including the person and the black iron armor, it was close to two hundred jin. He immediately tore it apart randomly. With a series of clanking sounds, he threw the armor on the ground. Then, he lifted the general up and turned to look at the deepest part of the alley.

At the end of the alley, there was a nearly ten zhang high wall. He didn't know where it led to. Hongjun first dragged the general and then carried him. This guy was at least nine chi tall. His feet dragged on the ground and he was unconscious. After dragging him to the wall, Hongjun was so tired that he was panting. He tied the hook rope to the general's waist and slowly dragged him up.

Behind the wall was a garden. Flower pots were overturned. Hongjun heard that there were more pursuers coming from behind the opposite wall. He quickly dragged the unconscious general's hands and dragged him out of the front courtyard. At that time, the sky was just beginning to brighten. It was still drizzling. Most of the common people in Chang 'an city had not yet woken up. Hongjun went out of the courtyard and saw that everywhere he went were maze-like streets and alleys. After turning one corner, there was another. He was dumbfounded.

At that time, during the Tang Dynasty, Chang 'an had twelve outer gates and one hundred and ten inner cities, all personally designed by the great master Yuwen Kai. Although Hongjun had passed by many villages along the way, he had never been to such a grand capital city. He did not know where to go.

"Hey! Zhao Zilong! Zhao Zilong! " Hongjun turned his head to look at the two-jin carp behind him. The Carp Demon's eyes were bulging, its mouth was open, but it did not move for a long time. Presumably, it had been thrown by Hongjun and hit its head. Now it was unconscious.

"Wake up!" Hongjun was at his wit's end, but he could not abandon this man and run away. He also did not know where to go.

In the distance, more guards passed by. Hongjun did not dare to cause any more trouble. Suddenly, he saw a small door open in the alley ahead. A woman was laughing and joking as she sent out a fat man. After a moment of teasing, she led out a horse. The man mounted the horse and left.

Hongjun dragged the man and hid in the dark to observe for a moment. He heard the sound of hooves behind him. The search team was getting closer and closer. He had no choice but to harden his heart. He dragged the general and ran toward the half-closed door.
